Introduction

The Prime TX-1600 has long represented Seasonic's flagship model in its top-tier PSU series. The original Prime TX-1600 was widely regarded as one of the best power supplies available in the premium bracket, bringing a 133 A capable 12 V rail, Titanium efficiency levels, and a fully modular design to end users. To push the acoustic performance further and update this powerhouse to modern compliance, Seasonic has collaborated with the cooling experts at Noctua to release the Seasonic Prime TX-1600 Noctua Edition.

While the internal circuitry remains almost identical to the standard TX-1600, there are some notable changes. The original model was released when ATX 3.0 compliance was the main target, and it could actually only manage to comply with this up to 1000 W. In order to have been fully ATX 3.0 compliant, it would have needed to absorb a 3200 W transient spike without shutting down, but in original form, it could only handle a spike of 2000 W. The Noctua edition however fully complies with the latest ATX 3.1 standard, meaning it ships with the newer 12V-2x6 connector instead of the flawed 12VHPWR, and is able to soak up a 3200 W spike without tripping the protection circuit or dropping voltage significantly. Regarding the cooling solution, the standard 135 mm fan has been replaced by Noctua's renowned NF-A12x25 120 mm fan, paired with a custom-designed and optimized fan grille to minimize turbulence. This modification reduces the unit's noise output by a claimed 8–10 dB, bringing its Cybenetics acoustic certification from LAMBDA A to the LAMBDA A++ rating.
