Pragmata Handheld Performance Review
by 17th Dimension, on Apr 16th, 2026, in Handheld Gaming. Manufa · 2026-04-16 · via TechPowerUp

Introduction

After delivering one of the best Resident Evil games ever just a month and a half ago with Requiem, Capcom is back, this time introducing a whole new IP dubbed Pragmata. The game is a third-person shooter-slash-action adventure that turns the classic formula on its head by introducing a hacking minigame that plays out alongside shootouts, forcing players to split their attention between shooting at and avoiding enemies, and hacking them.

The game has been in development for almost six years since its initial unveiling in June 2020, and it is a rare sci-fi-themed single-player game—a genre that has been in short supply for what feels like forever. Pragmata takes place on a Moon-based station, with players controlling an astronaut—Hugh—and his sidekick—a little girl named Diana—who is actually a human-like android. Together, they are trying to escape the station after things take a turn for the worse.

Pragmata is built on the tried-and-true RE Engine. It comes with support for ray tracing, as well as path tracing, but only on NVIDIA GPUs, much like the recently released Resident Evil Requiem. Aside from ray and path tracing, there is also support for RE Engine's strand-based technology, which improves physical hair simulation. As for upscalers, you can use DLSS, FSR 1, FSR 3, and FSR 4, and the game also supports DLSS and FSR frame generation. There is no support for XeSS upscaling or frame generation, unfortunately.

Our handheld performance review evaluates how Pragmata runs on some of the most popular PC handhelds, including the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X, MSI Claw 8, ROG Ally X, and an ASUS ROG Ally running SteamOS. We will also provide optimized settings for most handhelds.
