






















LattePanda is DFRobot's line of x86 single-board computers, built for people who want a very small board that can still run full Windows or Linux software. DFRobot is widely known for robotics, open-source electronics, and education hardware. That background shows in the way LattePanda systems are compatible with a broad range of add-ons and accessories. The lineup is used in areas such as embedded computing, automation, IoT, and other small-scale deployments where size and flexibility are needed.
For this review, the company sent more than the Iota board alone. Alongside the base system, the package included the extra hardware needed to show how the platform can be expanded for cooling, networking, wireless connectivity, backup power, and other deployment-focused features, which gives a much better idea of how the Iota is actually used once everything is put together.

The base of the setup is the LattePanda Iota itself, configured here with 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC storage. Around that board, DFRobot included the official active cooler, the Smart UPS HAT, the 51 W PoE++ HAT, the M.2 4G expansion board, the M.2 M-Key expansion board, and an Intel AX210-based Wi-Fi 6E card. That is a lot of hardware for something this small. DFRobot is presenting it more as a compact platform that can be adapted for networking, battery-backed operation, wireless connectivity, and further storage or module expansion, depending on how it is being used.
The active cooler is included because a board this small still needs proper airflow once it is doing anything beyond basic tasks. The Smart UPS HAT adds battery backup and power management, which is useful for installations that cannot shut off the moment power drops. The 51 W PoE++ HAT lets the system take both power and network over Ethernet, which is especially useful for remote setups where running extra cables is not ideal. The 4G board adds support for cellular connectivity, the M-Key board provides a path for NVMe storage or AI hardware, and the AX210 card adds modern Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth support.
That combination gives the LattePanda Iota a lot more flexibility than a typical hobby board. It can be used for edge computing, remote monitoring, digital signage, kiosks, industrial control, light server work, or embedded systems that need a full Windows or Linux environment in a very small footprint. Home lab users will also find a good fit here, especially for those who want something compact for networking or automation projects, but still want standard x86 software compatibility.
Because of the nature of this build, along with the limited RAM and onboard storage available to the operating system, I was not able to run my full benchmark suite. Instead, I focused on a more targeted set of tests that fit within those constraints. That ended up being a better fit for the platform anyway, as it let me focus on the workloads and performance areas that are actually relevant to how a system like this would be used in the real world.
