ASUS has come out with all guns blazing with its refreshed range of AMD Socket AM5 motherboards and while we absolutely loved the incredible ROG Crosshair X870E Glacial, we don't really want to have to take out a bank loan in order to afford it. Thankfully, ASUS also has a bunch of far more affordable options if you want the latest that AMD motherboards have to offer, including the ROG Strix X870E-A Gaming Wi-Fi 7 Neo, which will leave you with plenty of change from $500.
It's ROG Strix range has become increasingly potent as far as features and capabilities go and the new Neo-branded boards are essentially refreshed and tweaked versions of those it released shortly after the launch of the 800-series chipsets and Ryzen 9000 CPUs. They're not just aesthetic refreshes though. There are some significant tweaks to the design and function based on findings from early 800-series models, in addition to actual new features such as a 512 Mbps (64 MB) BIOS, ROG Memory Q-Fan, AIO Q-Connector and more.

The improvements feature similar changes made by the competition, such as a tweaked PCIe lane design so bandwidth sharing no longer involves sacrificing GPU lanes, opening the door to wider current and future use of PCIe Gen 5 SSDs. Its price is higher than the existing ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming Wi-Fi, which now has a Neo replacement too, while its closest namesake last time was the ASUS ROG Strix X870-A Gaming Wi-Fi. The question is whether the step-up to X870E plus its new tweaks are worth the price, and whether the competition or indeed older ROG Strix models are more appealing.
