Compeau Inducted Into 2026 AIMBE College of Fellows

CMU's Phillip Compeau has been inducted into the 2026 College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering for his contributions to computational biology education.

Carnegie Mellon University's Phillip Compeau has been inducted into the 2026 College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), a distinction that recognizes the top 2% of professionals in the field.

Compeau, a teaching professor and assistant dean in the School of Computer Science's Ray and Stephanie Lane Computational Biology Department, was honored for his contributions to computational biology education, including the development of widely used learning platforms, inclusive teaching practices and leadership in curriculum design.

He was nominated, reviewed and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows, which recognizes individuals who have made significant advances in engineering and medicine through research, practice or education, as well as those shaping emerging areas of technology.

Compeau was formally inducted on Monday, April 13, at the AIMBE annual event in Arlington, Virginia, alongside 175 members of the 2026 class.

The AIMBE College of Fellows includes a global network of leaders across academia, industry, clinical practice and government, reflecting the breadth and impact of the medical and biological engineering field.
