A woman is in a critical condition after being bitten by a shark at Coogee Beach.
Emergency services were called to the beach just before 11.15am on Saturday.
"The woman was pulled from the water by members of the public who commenced first aid before the arrival of emergency services," a police statement said.
"Police rendered first aid to the woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, who has suffered serious arm and leg injuries, before NSW Ambulance paramedics attended.

"Police cleared nearby Coogee Oval to facilitate the landing of the CareFlight helicopter to airlift the woman to hospital.
"Nearby beaches, including Coogee, Clovelly, and Bronte have been closed."
A spokeswoman for NSW Ambulance said the woman was treated for "significant leg and arm injuries", and was transported by road ambulance to St Vincent's Hospital in a critical condition.
The woman was reportedly swimming between the flags about 30 metres from shore when the attack occurred.
An off-duty critical care doctor and lifeguards worked on her on the beach before paramedics arrived.
Surf Life Saving NSW said in a statement, "Council lifeguards, off duty lifesavers and the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter were among the responding services, with the chopper conducting surveillance of the area.
"The woman has been taken to hospital semi-conscious and breathing.
"As a result, beaches from Bondi to Maroubra have been closed and will remain closed for at least the next 24 hours.
"This is the fourth serious shark incident in Sydney since September 2025.
CEO Steve Pearce said, "We are sending our best wishes to the woman involved and her family at this time, after another terrible shark incident on our coastline".
"The volunteer Surf Life Saving patrol season ended in April, however there are still lifesaving services including drone surveillances providing safety measures within coastal communities," he said.
"Drones are currently flying at 14 locations, listed at the bottom of this release, until the end of the month. Additional drone surveillance has been organised for Bondi-Bronte today and tomorrow, with further flights in the area to be assessed."
