I agree, however if it were turned into a car ferry and passengers I believe that many cars would use it to get across as a short cut to the other side.

E-BIKE INTIMIDATION

I was having an outdoor coffee mid Monday morning across the road from Cronulla Police Station when four very young boys were riding their large e-motor bikes on the pavement in a menacing fashion.

They were confronted by a mature man who stood his ground and told them to stop riding so fast and dangerously.

They surrounded him and words were exchanged.

After both parties walked their separate the arrogant group of boys turned back to follow the gentleman who had crossed Kingsway.

I lost sight of what happened after that. I reported the intimidating behaviour to the police.

How long do we have to wait for the rules to be changed and enforced to reclaim our footpaths and roads from these illegal E-motor bikes.

FOOTPATHS SURVEY

Re the survey of footpaths which is being conducted by Sutherland Shire Council (story P. 21), I'll give them some feedback.

The footpaths are a total disgrace, an accident waiting to happen, not just the elderly (most of who are still ratepayers) but also the latest trend of looking at a phone at all times.

All the nice little gardens here and there in and around Sutherland itself, but the disgusting state of most of the footpaths not actually in the shopping precinct.

And don't get me started about the dead branches overhead.

BUILDER'S FIRST HOUSE

In 1978 we bought a block in Bunarba Rd Gymea, a subdivision behind Mr Doige, the headmaster of Gymea Bay Public School.

We contracted local builder Owen Trembath to build our home, but then found that Owen had only been doing renovations and extensions.

We proceeded with the build and ended up with a beautiful house, that we called home until in May 2024 when we sold and moved from the shire into Palm Lake Resort Forster Lakes.

After we took possession of our Gymea home, we were very appreciative of Owen's commitment to quality building that we had Owen and his wife to dinner in his first house construction.

Owen was another local identity such as butcher Ted Cary who cared for The Sutherland Shire.

NAB CARINGBAH CLOSURE

Re the closure of the NAB Caringbah branch (Story P.3), when did we agree to give away the access to our money?

Were we led into this disaster by people who accepted the step by step of dismantling of such access, resulting in us all tumbling into the void?

Why are 'we' now suddenly realising we are actually seeking a 'bank' to access such moneys?

I've had people tell me 'oh, you can ask for cash at Coles when you put your groceries through? I guess Woolworths etc do the same thing, but I want to go to my bank and draw my money out.

Luckily, being a St George Bank customer, Westpac have opened a branch covering both banks at Sutherland and will probably combine the two banks at any time now. I'll accept that when it happens.

In the meantime, stop the closing of all branches of all banks across the Shire.

WHAT ABOUT ELDERLY?

Re the NAB Caringbah branch closure (P.3), what about the elderly people, who have banked with them all their life and still require traditional banking?

The big banks post massive profits and treat their loyal customers like trash.

HOONS ON SYLVANIA ROAD

When will the police presence return to Sylvania Road between Kingsway and President Ave, Miranda / Gymea?

Residents living along this road experience constant 24-hour a day noise of illegally registered (poor to no mufflers) motor vehicles including motor cycles, racing up and down at speeds way, way above the posted 50km/h speed limit.

These hoons have no fear of being booked or having their vehicles defected, simply because there are no police.

On the very rare occasion there is a Highway Patrol car stationed along this road they are in full and plain sight, so the word gets out on the Waze real time road alert system and all vehicle drivers slow down or avoid the area.

So, the reason for the police to be there is now defeated.

This is a real problem, with dire results being the outcome. Residents are just waiting for the big accident that will eventually happen.

Police should consider sending fake information to the Waze system to corrupt its integrity and maybe save a life.
