Georges River Council has entered into a Project Agreement with NSW Office of Sport (OOS) for the delivery of the Carss Park Pool.

The agreement outlines five project milestones, with funding released on the successful completion and verification of each milestone.

The first milestone, the review of environmental factors for the project was reached in March.

This requires the council to pay $2 million to the OOS in accordance with the project funding agreement.

The next steps under the funding agreement are:

2. Project Works Contractor commencing construction on the Land, $7 million. September 2026;

3. Myrtha Pools structural installation completion by the Project Works Contractor, $3 million, May 2027

4. Completion of construction by the Project Works Contractor, $2 million, October 2027

5. Completion and handover of the facility to the council, $1 million, October 2027.

The Carss Park Aquatic Facility Construction Contribution Reserve is the council's funding source for the capital contribution, with a projected balance of $11.67 million as at 30 June 2026.

The remaining $3.3 million required will be funded in accordance with council's 2026/27 budget strategy.

The Carss Park Aquatic Centre is overseen by the council's Project Control Group which is in communication with the relevant state agencies.

The Office of Public Works will deliver the construction of the pool on behalf of the Office of Sport.

Funding for the $63.5 million aquatic centre is being provided by the NSW Government, Georges River Council and the Commonwealth Government.

The new pool will feature an eight-lane, 50 metre outdoor pool, 20 metre by 10 metre outdoor Learn to Swim pool as well as supporting amenities and infrastructure, providing the community with a modern facility for recreation, exercise and competition.

Officially known as the Kogarah War Memorial Pool, it was permanently closed in 2019 after it was found to be polluting Kogarah Bay.
