Design aims to make alternative futures possible through systematic, experimental, human-centered, aesthetic and critical exploration. The subject area of Design is interdisciplinary, and perspectives and methods from both the technical/natural sciences, the social sciences/humanities and the artistic fields are used.
As a senior lecturer in design, you will teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in Swedish and English and supervise students in Linköping University's various design-oriented programs. Teaching focuses primarily on participatory design, service design and interaction design. The work includes course design and course responsibility.
Design research encompasses a range of different activities, from scientific research to experimentation, often in the form of innovative combinations guided by a conscious need to deepen the understanding of what design is and how design could develop in the future. Design research is highly international, and is therefore conducted in both Swedish and English.
This position is located at the division Human-Centered Systems (HCS), in the research group Interaction and Service design research (IxS). The research group conducts design research with a focus on services and interaction. For the past 20 years, we have worked in various parts of the public sector, and for a few years now have been participating in knowledge development in the meeting between AI and design, as well as in the intersection between policy development and design. The division’s research and teaching is focused on studying and improving the interaction between individuals, computer systems and information resources. Humans and their abilities constitute both a starting point and a goal. Important research areas are service design, human-computer interaction, knowledge technology, language technology, geographic information systems, computer support for education/training, information management, the introduction of new technology in organizations and security in complex systems. Linköping University is one of Sweden's leading design research and education universities, and is a world leader in, among other things, service design research.
You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications and help attract external research funding.
You contribute actively to the university's development work. Collaboration is an integral part of the university’s research and education mission.
The employment may also involve administrative duties, such as educational and research administration. We also encourage you to participate in and show interest in management duties.
Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.
You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group’s professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. We are looking for a candidate who has received a doctoral degree or has equivalent academic expertise, and has demonstrated pedagogical expertise or other professional skills that are of significance with consideration for the subject and duties relevant to the appointment and duties.

The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe. Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming.
