Cloud Adoption Update for Financial Market Infrastructure Providers 1H26 | Amazon Web Services
Alex Mirarch · 2026-07-21 · via AWS for Industries

Overview

What does it look like when the world’s most systemically important financial institutions go all-in on cloud? In the first half of 2026, we got answers. Exchanges are matching and clearing millions of more trades seamlessly per day on AWS. Central counterparties are rearchitecting legacy post-trade infrastructure for resilience and speed. Data providers are plugging real-time financial intelligence directly into agentic AI workflows. And generative AI has moved from experimentation to production across the trade lifecycle.

This installment of the Cloud Adoption Update for Financial Market Infrastructure Providers (FMIs) blog captures the momentum. Below, we highlight the most notable announcements from 1H26 of FMI providers leveraging AWS to transform their businesses.

Trading and Post Trade

FMIs continue to move mission-critical trading and post-trade systems to AWS, with many announcing the modernization of core post trade systems in 1H26. In April, the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) went live with its new CHESS (Clearing House Electronic Subregister System) equity clearing platform on AWS. The system processes equities clearing at three times the speed of the previous system. It can process 21 million trades a day, compared to 7 million for the old system. With AWS, the ASX has gained enhanced resiliency as it leverages Availability Zones in AWS’s Sydney and Melbourne Regions for greater operational flexibility. Following this go-live, ASX will modernize its derivatives market clearing systems with AWS.

Through its strategic partnership with Nasdaq and AWS, BYMA (Bolsas y Mercados Argentinos) went live on Nasdaq’s Eqlipse Clearing platform, hosted on AWS — becoming one of the first FMIs in Latin America to run core clearing and settlement workloads in the cloud. Nasdaq partnered closely with BYMA on design, implementation, and go-live. BYMA’s milestone also marks the first global go-live of Nasdaq’s Eqlipse Clearing platform on AWS.

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) announced it is working with AWS to migrate its core post-trade infrastructure—including clearing, settlement, and risk applications—to the public cloud. DTCC is rearchitecting these systems to be modular, cloud-enabled, and resilient, with the goal of strengthening the soundness of its systemically important services while bringing greater agility, faster recovery, and enhanced cyber defense. The planned migration follows receipt of a “Notice of No Objection” from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in June 2025. DTCC aims to complete the modernization effort by 2030.

The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC), detailed how they enhanced resiliency and governance for their cloud-native clearing, settlement and data platform on AWS. One of the key decisions OCC made to achieve this was to automate governance across a multi-account environment with AWS Control Tower, and then validate infrastructure resilience through a structured AWS Fault Injection Service (AWS FIS) program. With these services and other architectural decisions, the OCC now operates a cloud environment where every workload, from development through production, runs inside a consistent governance framework. This led them to satisfy the requirements of three federal regulators and validated under real failure conditions.

Gemini announced that it is hosting its markets on AWS’s Outposts Family, using the bmn-sf2e instance type designed for ultra-low latency with deterministic performance. In addition, Gemini shared how they built a latency-optimized proximity trading environment in AWS’s New York Local Zone, which enables sub-millisecond connectivity to their on-premises matching engine. Gemini’s decision to build-out this environment underscores the broad interest in hosting trading platforms in the cloud, particularly for crypto markets. AWS’s blog series on Optimizing tick-trade latency on AWS highlights best practices for designing and building trading platforms on AWS. In April, we published Part 2 of this series with a focus on optimizing Amazon EC2 compute and networking.

Abaxx Exchange published a case study with AWS detailing how they hosted their markets on AWS, which enabled them to innovate faster, streamline client connectivity, and dynamically manage spikes in trading activity. Customers can connect to Abaxx’s markets in weeks compared to months on-prem, and Abaxx can launch new products in weeks versus months. Abaxx was also able to manage a 10x spike in trading activity during launch and has cut hosting costs by 35%.

Data, ML & GenAI

FMIs and capital markets data providers continued to work with AWS to launch innovative data distribution, machine learning, and generative AI use cases in the first half of 2026. A notable trend this period is the emergence of Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations and agentic AI solutions that deliver trusted financial intelligence directly into AI-powered workflows.

LSEG announced a collaboration with AWS to transform its Real-Time Optimized data business. This business gathers and delivers hundreds of billions of data updates every day on 100 million instruments sourced from over 575 exchanges and trading venues globally. LSEG will leverage AWS services in the collection, routing, and distribution of its real-time financial data to customers globally. LSEG also published a blog post detailing how it uses AWS cross-region connectivity for AWS PrivateLink to transform global market data access for its Real-Time Optimized service, connecting customers securely and efficiently across regions.

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) selected Transparent Markets Europe (TME) to be the Consolidated Tape Provider (CTP) for OTC Derivatives in the European Union. TME will be using AWS to host their platform, which is built on the production infrastructure developed and operated by Etrading Software for the UK bond Consolidated Tape Provider, ETS Connect UK. ETS Connect UK went live on June 22, 2026, and is using AWS cloud-native infrastructure to deliver the operational resilience, scalability, and security that ETC Connect UK required of regulated market infrastructure.

Tradeweb announced the launch of TARA (Tradeweb AI Research Assistant), a conversational AI-powered assistant designed to help institutional U.S. credit market participants transform trading data into actionable real-time market intelligence and trading insights. Embedded directly within the Tradeweb institutional platform, TARA enables users to query trading activity, market flows, execution performance, liquidity conditions, and pricing intelligence using natural language. Tradeweb built TARA with Amazon Bedrock and is using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore for agent orchestration. By integrating Tradeweb’s proprietary historical and intraday real-time data with advanced analytics from Tradeweb Ai-Price, Tradeweb’s fixed-income pricing engine, TARA delivers personalized insights tailored to a client’s trading activity alongside broader market trends. Previously, getting these insights required multiple steps and could take days.

TP ICAP’s Liquidnet worked with AWS to build a proprietary AI sales trading tool called FirstMate. FirstMate uses GenAI to surface trading opportunities for Liquidnet’s dealer team, which enables them to enhance execution and improve access to liquidity for their customers. FirstMate leveraged GenAI and Liquidnet’s proprietary datasets, and is the first GenAI workload focused on revenue generation that Liquidnet has deployed in production.

Nasdaq continues to expand its AI capabilities, announcing at its 2026 Investor Day that it is working with AWS to deploy hundreds—scaling to thousands—of AI agents across its platform. Nasdaq Verafin expanded its agentic AI workforce with role-based agents for AML and fraud automation, using consortium data from over 2,800 financial institutions to autonomously disposition alerts while maintaining full regulatory audit trails. Nasdaq also presented at NVIDIA GTC 2026 on the use of digital twins with GenAI for market simulation.

Moody’s announced that its Moody’s Agentic Solutions (MAS) workflows are now available in AWS Marketplace. The MAS Credit Memo workflow applies Moody’s proprietary data, ratings, research, and risk insights through an advanced agentic workflow that transforms the traditionally manual, knowledge-intensive process of creating credit memos into a more automated and consistent experience.

Moody’s also announced the availability of its connected intelligence in Amazon Quick through a dedicated MCP server. Amazon Quick is an enterprise-grade, agentic AI assistant and business workspace developed by AWS. The integration gives customers direct access to ratings and research from Moody’s Ratings, as well as curated data on more than 600 million public and private entities—directly within agentic workflows.

LSEG also announced that it will make its data and analytics available in Amazon Quick through its MCP server, helping customers securely bring high-quality financial intelligence into AI-powered workflows across research, productivity, and agentic applications. Through this integration, customers can access a broad range of LSEG financial content, including pricing, company reference data, estimates, fundamentals, ownership, macroeconomic indicators, ESG, and analytical models.

Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) announced the availability of its D&B Commercial Graph solution on Amazon Quick, through its MCP server. Quick users can now access D&B’s verified business information directly for a continuously validated view of business identity, ownership, and relationships to power AI-driven workflows across a range of use cases in finance, sales, and marketing.

This trend of data providers making their datasets available in Amazon Quick highlights the broad demand we are seeing for enterprise-grade AI assistants that power agentic workflows across a range of use cases. In fact, the author of this blog used Amazon Quick to produce a workable first draft of this installment of the Cloud Adoption Update for FMIs blog in minutes. Previously, this process could take days.
