SpawnBox 1.4.1 - The Install button works again
SpawnBox · 2026-08-19 · via SpawnBox Releases

Updating from inside SpawnBox has quietly done nothing since v1.3.1. This release fixes it, and here is the one trick to get this update installed.

This one is a bug-fix release, and the headline bug is an uncomfortable one to write up: for the last few versions, the button you press to update SpawnBox has not worked. We found it, we fixed it, and below is how to get past it one last time.

The Install button works again

Since v1.3.1, opening Settings and pressing Install did nothing at all. No error, no spinner, nothing. The update was ready and the button was live - but pressing it opened a confirmation dialog behind the settings window, where you could not see it or click it. SpawnBox was waiting on an answer to a question you were never shown.

Automatic updates were never affected, so many people have been getting new versions without ever noticing. But if you have been pressing Install and wondering why nothing happened, it was not you.

SpawnBox stopped locking itself out of your router

When your server needs to be reachable from outside your home, SpawnBox asks your router to open a path to it. That request is tied to your PC’s address on your home network - and that address can change on its own, usually after a reboot or a router restart.

When it changed, SpawnBox would ask for the path again, see that one already existed, and refuse to touch it - because as far as it could tell, the existing one belonged to somebody else. It was its own forward from before the address changed. It had locked itself out, and your friends would find the server unreachable until someone cleared it by hand.

SpawnBox now recognizes its own forward and takes it back. If you saw your server go unreachable after a reboot for no obvious reason, this was a likely cause.

Diagnostic reports start fresh again

When something goes wrong, Settings then Diagnostics then Build Diagnostic Package puts together a report you can send us. Recently, pressing it stopped starting a new report and instead re-opened the last one you made, telling you it was already done.

That is a bad bug to have in the button people press because something is broken - you would go to tell us about a new problem and be handed your old report. Every press starts a genuinely new report again.
