Video on 500px Is Live: Everything New in This Update
500px Blog · 2026-09-10 · via 500px

Photography doesn’t stand still. So today we shipped the biggest update to 500px in years, and video on 500px leads it.

The site is faster. It fits any screen properly. And four new things sit on top of it.

First, one thing worth saying up front. Nothing you have uploaded has changed. We did not move, remove, recompress or re-rate a single photo. Your Galleries look the way you left them. Your licensing terms, royalty split and payout schedule are all the same today as they were yesterday. This update only adds to the 500px experience.

Here is what it adds.

Video on 500px: upload, share, and get feedback

Plenty of you shoot motion as well as stills. Until now you had nowhere to put it here. That changes today.

Video on 500px lives on your profile, right beside your photographs. People can like it, comment on it and share it, exactly as they do your stills.

The specs are simple:

  • MP4 and MOV files
  • Up to 5GB
  • Between three and twenty minutes
  • One video per upload

Video licensing is not live yet. However, it is in development, and we will publish the terms before it opens.

Photo Battles put the vote in your hands

Quests have a new format, and this time you decide the winner.

Participating photographers take the same theme, shoot, and submit their photos. Then the community votes. The winner takes badges, recognition, and prizes.

500px has always run on one idea: photographers should be judged by photographers. Photo Battles is the most direct version of that idea we have built.

The first Battle is open now.

AI Photo Critique gives you a second opinion

Upload a photo and ask for a read on it.

You get notes on composition, exposure, color, technical quality, and artistic elements. You also get specific things to try next time.

It is not a score, and it is not a verdict. Think of it as a second opinion at two in the morning, when nobody is around to ask.

Suggested titles and keywords save you the typing

Keywording is the dullest part of putting work online. It is also the part that decides whether anyone finds it.

So when you upload a photo, 500px can now suggest a title, a description, and keywords based on what is in the frame. Edit them, rewrite them or ignore them. Nothing publishes until you accept it.

Our position on AI has not changed

We added two AI tools today. Our rules on AI images stayed exactly where they were.

AI-generated images are still banned on 500px: not in Licensing, not in Quests, not on profiles. Every licensing submission must still come from a camera sensor.

Photo Critique looks at a photo you took and tells you what it sees. Suggested keywords look at a photo you took and offer words for it. Neither one creates an image, and neither one ever will.

What has not changed

This question comes up every time a platform changes, so here are the answers in one place:

  • Every photo, Gallery and collection sits exactly where you left it.
  • No licensing arrangement, distribution partner, royalty split or payout term has moved.
  • Photos already in Licensing have not been resubmitted or reprocessed.
  • AI-generated images and video remain banned across the platform.

Go and try it

Upload a video. Enter a Photo Battle, or vote in one. Run a critique on a shot you were never quite sure about.

Then tell us what you think. Honest feedback beats polite feedback, and we read all of it. You can reach us at info@500px.com.

Thank you for being part of 500px.
