Work assignments

The position as Professor in Plant Bioelectronics is based at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE), Department of Science and Engineering. Research and education at LOE focus on electronically and ionically conducting organic materials with applications in a range of areas, including but not limited to energy conversion and storage, printed electronics, photonics, and bioelectronics.

The holder of this position will lead an independent research programme in materials science with a particular focus on polymer electronics, for example the development of multifunctional organic semiconductor materials with electrical and optical properties tailored for different purposes, primarily within electronics and energy applications. The research profile of the position includes the development of plant bioelectronics and plant-based biohybrid systems, in which organic electronic materials are integrated with living plants in order, for example, to monitor and modulate physiological processes in real time. The research profile may also include exploring plants as active technological components, for example in adaptive, self-healing and sunlight-driven living hybrid materials for sustainable agriculture, environmental sensing and regenerative technologies.

You are active in the research community, participate in the division's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results through academic publications, and help attract external research funding.

As a professor in Plant Bioelectronics, you will contribute to teaching at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels. For this position, teaching is conducted in English and primarily within doctoral and Master's level courses.

You contribute actively to the university's development work. We would like you to show interest in and participate in collaboration with local society. The collaboration assignment applies both in educational and research contexts. In the context of education, the main objective is to ensure the relevance of the education to working life and to create the conditions for lifelong learning. In the context of research, the collaboration assignment applies mainly through disseminating, making available and utilising research.

The employment may also involve administrative and management duties, such as serving as head of unit, deputy head of division or head of division, as well as participation in steering groups. The duties specifically include assuming a leadership role for plant electronics within LOE. This leadership entails line management responsibility for all staff within your unit and contributing to the strategic direction and development of LOE as a whole. The position also includes supervision of Master's students, doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in their research activities, as well as project management responsibilities, including coordination of both national and international research activities involving members from several LOE units. We also encourage you to participate in and show interest in management duties.

Your work includes monitoring developments nationally and internationally within your field of study and other societal developments that are important to your work.

You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group's professional development, collegial ways of working and social community. The fact that you are present and active is something we see as self-evident in order to ensure that you are able to perform your duties in an optimum way and enjoy your working community.
