We are now looking to appoint a postdoc in the Soft Electronics group, placed at the Department of Science and Technology in the Laboratory of Organic Electronics, Campus Norrköping

Research area

The Soft Electronics group is an international team led by Prof. Klas Tybrandt and is part of the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE). We develop composite materials, design concepts and devices for soft and deformable electronic and energy systems. Areas of special interest are sustainable energy harvesting/storage, bioelectronics and neural interfaces, and stretchable (semi)conductors. Many of our projects involves national and international collaborations including a variety of competences. Prof. Tybrandt is the recipient of the ERC CoG 2022 and Wallenberg Academy Fellow 2021. At the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) we explore electronic and optical properties of organic semiconductors, biomaterials from the forest, and hybrid organic materials. Our activities span the range from basic research to commercialization, the latter carried out in close collaboration with the institute RISE. LOE currently has ~175 researchers and research students working within 13 research groups, each led by a principal investigator. Read more at www.liu.se/loe

Linköping University (LiU) conducts world-leading, cross-disciplinary research in fields that include materials science, IT and life science technology. LiU is one of the largest universities in Sweden and today has 46,000 students and 4,700 employees. The students are among the most desirable in the labour market and international rankings consistently place LiU as a leading global university. Read more at www.liu.se

Work assignments

As a postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

The candidate will design new concepts, material compositions and fabrication methods for sustainable and stretchable printed fluid batteries. The work involves formulation and characterization of fluid battery electrodes that combine electronic and ionic conductivity with charge storage capacity and fluidity. Once optimized, the postdoc will investigate novel design concepts for fluid batteries and develop tailored fabrications methods based on printing to realize and evaluate the concepts. The developed batteries will be integrated into wearable sensor patches together with collaborators within the EU E-FLOWER consortium.

The work is part of an ongoing effort within the Soft Electronics group on sustainable and stretchable energy devices led by Prof. Klas Tybrandt and Asst. Prof. Aiman Rahmanudin. The project will be highly collaborative within the group, LOE and with RISE. The project is part of the large EU consortium E-FLOWER which develops sustainable wearable electronics and will therefore involve European collaborations as well.

As a postdoc you are expected to assist in the leadership of the scientific work within your area and to guide students. Responsibilities can increase in relation to demonstrated abilities. The host has an excellent track record in acquiring Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships and the hired candidate is encouraged to develop an application supported by the host.

Qualifications

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

A suitable background for this position is a PhD in materials science, nanoscience, material chemistry, chemistry, or a related field. Experience in stretchable electronics and batteries are considered merits. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with complementary and transferable skills with the desire to explore and learn new scientific topics, has excellent problem-solving skills and great teamwork ability. Research at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics is carried out predominantly in English, so relative fluency is favorable.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

The employment

This post is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years. The position as a postdoc is full-time.

Starting date Autumn 2026 or by agreement.

Salary and employment benefits

The University applies individual salary scales adapted to the experience of the employee and to the labour market. A typical postdoc salary is around 4000 EUR/month.

More information about employee benefits is available here.

Applications and documents received after the date above will not be considered.

The following documents must be submitted:

  1. Cover letter, max 1 page, describing your background, research interests and what makes you interested in the position.
  2. CV, max 4 pages, including contact details to three reference persons.
  3. Full publication list.
  4. Copy of passport, PhD diploma, and MSc transcripts with grades.

We welcome applicants with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives - diversity enriches our work and helps us grow. Preserving everybody's equal value, rights and opportunities is a natural part of who we are. Read more about our work with: Equal opportunities.

We look forward to receiving your application!
