Irvine, Calif. – JAMS, the premier provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that William “Bill” H. Farmer, Esq., has received the Jack Norman, Sr. Award, the highest honor given by the Nashville Bar Association (NBA). The award was presented on April 23 at the NBA’s Law Day Luncheon in Nashville.

The Jack Norman, Sr. Award is presented to criminal law practitioners, including defense attorneys, prosecuting attorneys and judges of courts with criminal jurisdiction, who practice in the Metropolitan Nashville area. It recognizes those whose primary work is in criminal law and who demonstrate respect for the rights of all individuals in the justice system. Honorees exemplify strong trial or judicial skills, uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethics, and show a deep commitment to the legal profession. They also contribute to improving the criminal justice system, including through uncompensated or undercompensated representation of the accused.

“Mr. Farmer has dedicated his career to upholding the principles of fairness and integrity within the justice system. This honor reflects his exceptional service, strong ethical foundation and meaningful contributions to the legal profession.”

Kimberly Taylor, JAMS CEO and president.

Mr. Farmer is a JAMS neutral with decades of experience in the legal field, including more than 70 jury trials across a wide range of civil and criminal matters. His practice spans general litigation, toxic tort and environmental cases, and complex appellate work. Drawing on this extensive background, he brings a practical, informed perspective to dispute resolution, helping parties evaluate risk and pursue efficient, equitable outcomes.

Throughout his career, Mr. Farmer has been known for his ability to navigate high-stakes disputes and guide parties toward resolution. His approach emphasizes ensuring participants feel heard while maintaining a clear focus on the legal and financial realities of continued litigation. His prior roles include serving as an assistant U.S. attorney, the first federal public defender for the Middle District of Tennessee and advocate general for the state of Tennessee, as well as practicing in private firms including Farmer Purcell White & Lassiter and Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis. He also served on the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission for 15 years and is an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he teaches trial advocacy.
