Is Your Training Data Actually Model-Ready?

If you're fine-tuning a speech model, you've probably hit this wall: DNSMOS gives you a score, but it doesn't tell you whether the data behind that score is actually right for your model.

Treat it as a pass/fail gate and you'll end up training on audio that looks clean on paper but drags down real-world performance—while good source data gets tossed for no reason.

Voices' CTO DJ Jalali (with the team's senior audio and voice data engineers) just published a free white paper that breaks down the four-step calibration framework they use internally to set model-specific quality thresholds instead of trusting the raw DNSMOS number. It also covers where DNSMOS breaks down and how Voices validates audio for custom datasets at scale.

Tech Buzz Editorial Feature

Inside the rate hike that admits the inflation fight was never really about demand, and the CLARITY Act failure hasn’t slowed the SEC and CFTC down.

The Fed raised rates on Wednesday for the first time in three years, moving to a 3.75% to 4% range. What makes this one different is who signed off on it. Kevin Warsh took over as Fed chair in May after Trump picked him specifically to cut rates. Instead, Warsh delivered a unanimous 12 to 0 hike, and the dot plot left the door open for one more before year end.

Trump didn't hide his frustration. He told reporters he'd already spoken to Warsh before the vote and said, "you might as well vote with the board because it's not going to matter." He's been demanding rates fall to 1% or lower for over a year. Warsh, for his part, wouldn't touch the politics. "We stay in our lane," he said, "we'll let people that do trade policy and fiscal policy stay in their lane too." That's about as close to a public break as a sitting Fed chair gets with the president who hired him, five months into the job.

Markets took a day to make up their minds. The Dow dropped over 600 points on the announcement, and the 10 year Treasury yield pushed back above 5%, a level not seen since 2007. That's the number that actually sets your mortgage rate. By Thursday, stocks had mostly clawed it back, the Dow up 0.6%, the Nasdaq up 1.7%, as traders decided Warsh's hawkishness had at least restored some credibility. Even Rick Rieder, the BlackRock bond chief who was passed over for Warsh's job, isn't convinced the medicine matches the disease. He points out that the inflation that's actually sticky right now, energy, insurance, healthcare, education, is exactly the kind that doesn't respond much to interest rates at all.

Why A 25 Basis Point Hike Doesn't Touch The Real Problem

Wall Street veteran Dave Weisberger put it plainly on David Lin's show, Warsh himself basically admitted the quiet part when he called the US 10 year bond "the most important asset on earth," a line Weisberger doesn't think Warsh meant to say out loud. The bond market had already forced this move by pushing yields too high to ignore. But Warsh also conceded nothing he does touches oil or diesel prices, and diesel is the input ripping through everything else right now.

Robinhood's chief investment officer Stephanie Guild framed it the same way on Yahoo Finance. High demand for money and a shrinking supply of energy are grinding against each other, and a rate hike doesn't fix either side of that equation. There's a flicker of relief on the supply front, Brent crude eased to $104 a barrel Thursday after the US energy secretary said Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, a workaround for the blocked Strait of Hormuz, would be back online soon. That's a Band-Aid, not a fix, the Strait itself is still choked.

Weisberger also ran the deficit math that nobody in the press conference brought up. A quarter point hike adds roughly $100B a year in financing costs on the nation's $40T in debt. If the hike actually slows the economy, it also shrinks tax revenue and increases transfer payments, which makes the deficit worse, not better. He's blunt about where that leaves things: inflation is "baked in the cake" as long as deficits keep expanding, because more dollars chasing the same goods means higher prices, full stop.

The wealth split underneath all this is real too. The top 10% of earners own most of the stock market and are still spending off recent gains, a $100 rise in your portfolio tends to translate into roughly $3 more spending. That group alone accounts for about half of all US consumption. Everyone else is getting squeezed by gas and grocery prices with flat wages.

Congress Killed The Crypto Bill, Nobody Told The Regulators

One day before the Fed decision, the Senate blocked the CLARITY Act, falling short 49 to 50. It died over ethics, not the crypto rules themselves. Trump disclosed over $1.4B in personal crypto income for 2025, and Democrats wanted an enforceable ban on officials profiting from the assets they regulate.

The democrats say the bill remains alive as the negotiate the ethics changes, though time is running short for passage and the next window is likely early 2027.

however, what has happened in the regulatory sphere since the vote is the more interesting story. Within two days, four huge barriers moved:

  1. The SEC granted a temporary Innovation Exemption clearing the path for tokenized stock trading, opening the door to round the clock equity markets that never close for a weekend.

  2. The House Ways and Means Committee advanced the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act, cleaning up how crypto fees, staking, and mining get taxed.

  3. A House committee also advanced the American Reserve Modernization Act 28 to 21 along party lines, which would lock Trump's Strategic Bitcoin Reserve into law and require the government's roughly 324,527 Bitcoin, worth about $24.7B, to be held for a minimum of 20 years.

  4. And Circle switched on Arc, a new payments blockchain with BlackRock, DTCC, and Visa signed on as validators, with USDC's $74B in circulation now wired directly into it.

None of that needed the Clarity Act to pass. Regulatory clarity and crypto's institutional plumbing are both arriving anyway, just piece by piece through agencies and committees instead of one comprehensive bill. Bitcoin, which dipped below $76,000 on the Senate news, is back near $76,500 and holding.

What This Means For The Dollar Story

A hawkish Fed is dollar bullish in the short run, and that's what happened, yields spiked, the dollar firmed against the yen, gold slipped. That cuts against the longer running de dollarization thesis, but doesn't break it. Stablecoins engineered as buyers for US debt, BRICS nations settling trade outside the dollar, central banks still stacking gold, the structural pressure we’ve been discussing for much of this year just keeps building underneath a currency that's strong this week and cornered over the decade. Both things are true at once. That's usually how it goes, slowly, then all at once.

"With or without legislation, we will act decisively within the SEC's statutory authority to deliver certainty for American investors and for the entrepreneurs shaping our technological future."

— Paul Atkins, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission
