Language learning app Duolingo had another great year with 38 percent revenue growth, extending its lead as the largest education app by revenue as market growth slowed.

The education app market only grew by 1.8 percent in 2025, according to the Education App Report, with many education app providers seeing their revenues decline due to artificial intelligence.

That Duolingo has been able to continue its double digit percentage growth is testament to the company’s strong AI transition. Its Duolingo Max subscription service has opened up an opportunity for the language learning platform to earn higher revenue per user, by packaging its AI product as a meaningful upgrade to its standard premium service.

Is your privacy opt-in rate costing you $525,000 a year?

The gap between a 65% and 90%+ privacy opt-in rate can mean $525,000 in lost revenue annually for a 100K DAU app — and most teams have no idea where they stand.

This guide breaks down the true cost of consent debt, why the average app sits at just 80% opt-in, and the exact tactics top performers use to consistently hit 90%+: prompt timing, banner design, vendor list optimization, and more.

Other education app providers, most notably Chegg, have seen revenues and usage of their apps decline with the growth of AI. This is despite integration with ChatGPT into Chegg Study, showing that there needs to be more to the integration than simply embedding a chatbot.

Not only can the chatbots function as study partners and homework helpers, but they also provide users with ways to customize learning exactly to their liking. At the same time, there has been a surge in the amount of apps launched specifically for these tasks, often with no subscription or a lower subscription cost than the incumbents.

Most of the incumbents saw their market share decline in 2025, due to the increase in apps available and chatbots.

Even so, the amount of people using education apps increased, with 755 million active users worldwide. The Asia-Pacific region accounted for 44 percent of the total users. Education apps were also more downloaded than the previous year, indicating users still want to use educational apps but are going further afield to find them.
