Cambridge Industrial Archaeology Group: Film Night

Mon 11 May

Cambridge Museum of Technology

Co-presented by Gordon Davies (volunteer, Cambridge Museum of Technology) and Kieran Gleave (PhD student, Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge).
This year's film night will focus on the lifecycle of dams and hydro-power (from construction and operation to decommission and dereliction), presented cinematically, through the films of Jean-Luc Godard and Andrey Tarkovsky (both of whom had personal as well as cinematic connections to dam construction and hydro-power).
Revisit Grande Dixence dam, Switzerland, where Godard made his first film ("Operation Concrete") while working there on the dam's construction.
Revisit "The Zone" (Tallinn, Estonia) with Andrey Tarkovsky's "Stalker", through a research video undertaken in 2025 that explored dereliction, demolition and reconstruction of the industrial architecture featured in the film.

Cost: £5 (adults), £3 students (with ID). Proceeds support public opening of Cambridge Museum of Technology
