Inaugural Recital by Olivier Latry | Organ Festival

Fri 8 May

St John's College

At the heart of the Organ Festival is the inaugural recital given by Olivier Latry, Titular Organist at Notre-Dame de Paris. One of the leading ambassadors for the organ, Latry has performed in the world’s most prestigious venues, appeared as soloist with renowned orchestras and conductors, recorded with major labels, and premiered numerous new works.

The recital opens with two transcriptions of Bach: the monumental Chaconne, in Henri Messerer’s adaptation, and the Sicilienne in Louis Vierne’s. The music then turns to the great French Romantic tradition, with Franck’s Troisième Choral en La mineur, the ‘Andante sostenuto’ from Widor’s Symphonie gothique, and Vierne’s Carillon de Westminster. Works by Gaston Litaize and Vincent Paulet follow, before Jehan Alain’s Litanies and a closing improvisation by Latry himself.

The recital will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Cost: £30 Front of Chapel. £20 Rear of Chapel. £10 Ante-Chapel (restricted viewing). Seating is unreserved within sections and those seated in the ante-chapel will have a restricted view.
