Google is lowering the follower requirement for its new Search Profiles, making the feature available to more creators and publishers. If you didn't know, Google Search got a bit of a social media makeover.

It was announced in early June 2026 that you can now create a dedicated profile that brings your content, social accounts, and audience together in one place. Google has updated its eligibility requirements, so it's a good time to set up your profile and maximize your visibility on Search and Discover.

There are plans to expand the feature to more countries because it's currently limited to the US. Here's how it works.

Search Profiles offer more visibility

Search Profiles are creator pages that remove the inconvenience of someone searching for your name and getting a scattered collection of links. Now instead, you have a dedicated place where people can see who you are, what you do, and where to follow you, along with your latest articles, videos, and social posts.

You can also customize it with avatars and biographies. Searchers may follow you from Search. Google has even lowered the follower eligibility mark to 35,000 followers on X, Instagram, or YouTube, and 100,000 on TikTok.

The marks were 100,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, or X, and 300,000 on TikTok when the company first launched the feature. However, you must still be over 18.

To access your profile, go to profile.google.com. If your account is eligible, you'll see the option to create or claim your profile. Then it gets a public URL in the format profile.google.com/@yourhandle.

Alternatively, if you've claimed your Knowledge Panel, tap the three-dot button near it when you search. Then tap View Search Profile.

Google has long automatically generated Knowledge Panels from information it finds across the web. The company largely assembles them, so you can't personally control them. It's possible the company will merge it with the new profile.

A commenter under the announcement post on X shared their wishlist for businesses, stating that they want analytics showing how the profile performs in Search, plus a Store tab where creators could sell products or connect affiliate links. If anything, this addition would bring it closer to a creator hub rather than just an aesthetic page.

If you don't have the required followers for Google's new Search Profiles, you can claim a Knowledge Panel if one already exists for you. They appear as information boxes in Search. Claiming yours gives you a way to verify your identity and suggest corrections or updates to the information displayed.

There are also many third-party platforms that collate information about people. Some of them include Wikipedia, IMDb, Crunchbase, LinkedIn, and Muck Rack.

Although they're not officially portfolios, these hubs can be professional backups for your original samples. They may even surface relevant yet forgotten content. One commenter under Google's X announcement discovered that Google had created a profile for them that they didn't know existed.
