Iconic Map Cache Likely To Return To ‘Counter-Strike 2’ V...

While Dust 2 obviously holds the top spot on the most iconic Counter-Strike maps list, many would argue that right behind it sits Cache, one of the most popular maps in the series’ long history. However, Cache has been missing from the Counter-Strike active map pool since 2019, and fans have been calling for its addition to Counter-Strike 2 since it launched. Now it seems like those calls are finally being listened to, thanks to a new tease from Valve.

On the official CS2 X account, the header image for the profile has been updated to a concrete and dirt floor in a virtual world. Eagle eyed fans have identified this as a part of the Cache map, although with a new look that is quite different to the community map that was updated a few years ago.

Many have taken this as a tease that the official Valve version of the Cache map is about to be added to CS2 in the coming weeks. Given that Valve rarely announces new content before it launches, a tease like this is about as good as a confirmation that the map is coming to Counter-Strike 2 sometime soon.

However, as is always the case with Valve, there is a good chance that it takes much longer than fans expect. Back in January the official CS2 Twitter account confirmed that Valve was working on Cache, but hinted that they planned to take their time to make sure the map was perfect, even if it took a while to launch. This new tease suggests a launch is closer than ever, but with just a small area of the map being shown we really have no idea what state the map is in.

Of course, the hope is that Cache is in a great state, launches into Counter-Strike 2 in the coming weeks and is as good as fans remember. Given it has been years since the map was used at the top level, and that Valve has taken over development from the community team that created the map, after the company purchased the rights to the map in 2025, there will probably be quite a few changes. But as long as the core layout remains the same, and the updates are designed to bring the classic feel of the map into the modern CS2 engine, it should jump straight back to the top of the most popular map list.
