ForbesNYT Connections Hints Today: Monday, April 13 Clues And Answers (#1,037)

Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to my deeper dive into today’s Connections answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn’t sure how today’s groups fit together.

If I’ve missed any red herrings or misunderstood something, let me know via email or on Discord. I don’t typically look at X or check the comments here.

I’m going to assume that you’ve already beaten today’s game. We’re going straight into spoiler territory here. So, consider this your one and only warning.

Here are today’s NYT Connections answers explained (and any red herrings I spot) for Monday, April 13:

Today’s NYT Connections Answers Explained

Connections – Yellow Group

🟨 seen outside a theater (BOX OFFICE, MARQUEE, TICKET LINE, VELVET ROPE)

I thought at first that this was a reference to movie theater, but a VELVET ROPE isn’t something you’d always see outside one of those (unless, perhaps, it was hosting a premiere). So it makes more sense that this group refers to a theater where one might see a Broadway show.

Connections – Green Group

🟩 accessories for a magician (CAPE, HANDKERCHIEF, MAGIC WAND, RABBIT)

RABBIT refers to the stereotypical magic trick of pulling a bunny out of a hat. A magician might also wear a CAPE and use HANDKERCHIEFs in their performance.

Connections – Blue Group

🟦 TV show title surnames (HOUSE, LASSO, MONTANA, SOPRANO)

These refer to:

  • HOUSE > um, House
  • LASSO > Ted Lasso
  • MONTANA > Hannah Montana
  • SOPRANO > The Sopranos

Connections – Purple Group

🟪 they have caps (BASEBALL PLAYER, CAMERA LENS, MUSHROOM, PEN)

I’m annoyed I didn’t get this. because I’ve been getting into baseball lately. BASEBALL PLAYERs wear caps on their heads! It’s, like, the first thing you notice about them in close-up shots.

A photographer will typically use a cap to protect a CAMERA LENS when it’s not in use. Similarly, you might place a cap over the nib of a PEN to help stop it from drying out once you’re done using it. A cap is also the name for the wider part at a top of a MUSHROOM.

Connections – Red Herrings

Connections often has some red herrings. Let's take a look at today's (assuming I spotted any).

I thought LASSO, MAGIC WAND, PEN and CAMERA LENS are all things you can see in Adobe Photoshop, and that cost me a mistake in today’s game. I might be mistaken there, in hindsight, since I’m not absolutely sure a CAMERA LENS is a feature in that app.

If you’d like to chat about today’s game of Connections and just about anything else with me and a very lovely group of people, you can do just that in our Discord community. We’d love for you to hang out with us.

I’ll be back with another set of NYT Connections hints and answers tomorrow, as well as another edition of this one, all going well. You’ll be able to find both of those on my Forbes author page when the time comes (following me there helps me out too!). As for the weekend editions of my NYT Connections hints and answers column, I’m currently doing that via my newsletter, Pastimes.
