Since its first appearance in August and initial launch in late October, TrueNAS 25.10 “Goldeye” has gone from a beta product to a successful new release, with over 60,000 early adopters taking advantage of the latest that TrueNAS has to offer. Today, we’re unveiling the first update, TrueNAS 25.10.1, featuring over 100 fixes and improvements, as well as ongoing improvements for TrueNAS Connect.

TrueNAS 25.10.1 builds on the features documented in our BETA, RC1, and Release blogs. Thanks to the 50,000 early adopters, many issues have been identified and resolved. The version notes and update process have both been improved and outline all the changes through each of the releases of 25.10. Make sure to check the Software Status and Version Notes before updating, either on the Update page of your existing installation or the dedicated page on the TrueNAS Docs site.

The Most Powerful TrueNAS Release Yet

TrueNAS 25.10 brings a huge list of new features to TrueNAS, for both Enterprise and Community Edition (CE), including:

OpenZFS 2.3.4 predictable performance improvements

Multiple changes have been made to the underlying OpenZFS filesystem for optimizing data placement, delivering more consistent and predictable performance under load.

ZFS rewrite capabilities for rebalancing pools

Available in an early preview stage, ZFS rewrite allows you to perform in-place rebalancing of your ZFS pool after changing compression settings or adding new drives.

Space efficiency and reporting improvements

Improved reporting now shows the logical size of compressed data in ARC, letting you see the true benefits of TrueNAS data reduction.

Virtualization improvements: import, export VMs

The new Virtualization page in TrueNAS 25.10 now includes the ability to import and export common virtual disk formats, letting you easily deploy and migrate virtual machine workloads.

NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) provides next-generation block storage

The successor to iSCSI and FC, NVMe-oF provides block storage clients with a lower overhead way to access TrueNAS. (Not compatible with VMware initiators.)

Linux Kernel 6.12.33 and NVIDIA Blackwell support

A refreshed LTS Linux kernel adds further hardware support, while an updated NVIDIA driver enables support for the RTX 50 series and Blackwell PRO GPUs. (See details)

WebUI improvements – iSCSI, Docker YAML, Monitoring

We’re continuing to refine the web UI to make it more intuitive, more streamlined, and even easier to use every day – from provisioning users to storage, and reviewing the statistics in the dashboard.

TrueNAS versioned API – enables better Proxmox, K8s Plugins

The new Websocket driven, versioned API in TrueNAS enables better collaboration with third-party software. We’re hard at work with developers to seamlessly integrate with popular open-source solutions such as the Proxmox Virtualization Environment and Kubernetes Container Storage Interface.

Apps Pool Migration

It’s now easier than ever to move your TrueNAS Apps between pools – a few clicks is all that’s needed if you’ve added a faster SSD-based pool for better Apps responsiveness, or need to expand or migrate temporarily.

Data Hypervisor – HA VMs with ZFS (Enterprise)

The TrueNAS Data Hypervisor is now enabled for TrueNAS Enterprise HA systems, allowing you to run specific workloads with storage demands

Veeam Backup integration (Enterprise)

Backup is one of the most common workloads on TrueNAS Enterprise, and Veeam is one of the most popular backup solutions – so it just made sense for TrueNAS to run the new Veeam Software Appliance in the Data Hypervisor.

Terabit Ethernet: Use of 400Gbe and above speeds with RDMA (Enterprise)

With our new NVMe-oF support combined with TrueNAS Enterprise RDMA extensions, we were able to push over 75GB/s from a single system – perfect for feeding your most bandwidth-hungry applications.

Security hardening: STIG completion with FIPS 140 (Enterprise)

Major Improvements in 25.10.1

We’re excited to bring several new features to the forefront with TrueNAS 25.10.1, including:

• Improved API auditing and diagnostics: These audit tools improve diagnostics and are necessary for security hardening. As part of the preparation for the shift to the new WebSocket based API, warning alerts will be raised if the deprecated REST API is called.
• Support for new Terabit Ethernet hardware: Several TrueNAS platforms will receive support for 400Gbe Ethernet connectivity, including a new high-performance 1U appliance.
• App and VMs in TrueNAS Connect: Refined heartbeat reporting from TrueNAS improves status reporting in TrueNAS Connect for your on-device Apps and Virtual Machines.

Quality Improvements

Thanks to the extensive testing in the Community and in our labs, the quality of several capabilities was significantly improved:

• SMB and Active Directory: Several bug fixes address issues related to SMB storage with Active Directory. SMB auditing has also been made more robust, with audited shares disabling themselves if potential access leaks or misconfigurations are made.
• High Availability (HA): Since HA is not available in the Community Edition for testing, our team continued to validate this feature for our mission-critical Enterprise users.
• Time Machine and MacOS SMB: A bug related to taking Snapshots after TimeMachine backup has been corrected, to re-enable this functionality. A new Mac-specific SMB share template has also been added for Final Cut Pro and other Media and Entertainment (M&E) workloads.
• Windows 11 VMs: Fixes for TPM persistence and Secure Boot have been added, ensuring that Windows VM users will not experience Bitlocker or drive encryption continuity issues.

TrueNAS Connect Progresses

TrueNAS Connect continues its BETA process with TrueNAS 25.10.1 and the addition of Apps/VM management. Thanks to the thousands of beta testers who have been providing constructive feedback. The TrueNAS Connect release is planned for after the holidays.

TrueNAS R60 Performance Screams

Our first platform to make use of the Terabit Ethernet technology in TrueNAS 25.10 is the TrueNAS R60. With fast DDR5 RAM, PCIe Gen5 capability, and support for NVMe-oF with RDMA extensions, the R60 was built to deliver maximum performance in a very compact 1U platform. Supporting up to 12 NVMe SSDs, the R60 has been verified to achieve speeds of up to 75GB/s with less than 0.2ms typical latency.

Next Steps for TrueNAS

Whether you’re looking to upgrade from an earlier release or jump into TrueNAS for the very first time, there’s much more to learn about and love in TrueNAS 25.10.1. With this point release, 25.10 is considered the “Stable” version of TrueNAS, and will be getting most of the maintenance focus.

For conservative users, we currently recommend TrueNAS 25.04.2.6 for its maturity, Docker integration, and robust validation. This recommendation will change to Goldeye in Q1 2026.

The TrueNAS developers are hard at work with the next version, dubbed “Halfmoon”. Additional information and a BETA release version will be made available in early 2026. Halfmoon builds on all the existing Goldeye capabilities, and we’ve had a great response to some of its new features already.
