Selena Gomez is shutting down speculation that she was somehow calling Taylor Swift out for being at the Knicks game on Wednesday night.

In case you missed it, Sel commented “lol” on a photo MTV shared of Taylor celebrating with Mariska Hargitay. People were quick to assume she was coming for Taylor, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

Selena addressed the situation in a post late last night, writing on Instagram Stories, “woke up and was sent so many texts. I would never insult my friends nor was it an insult. The comment was a reaction to the first slide on the page.”

Selena then added some more context, saying “Second I bet my friends on the game. The friends in the text chain I posted. I lost but was poking at my opponents, my friends. Believe it or not I do have other friends in my life. But quickly forget that most assume otherwise. also .. It’s a basketball game.”

Selena and Taylor’s friendship goes way back, and Selena is rumored to be a bridesmaid at Tay’s upcoming wedding to Travis Kelce. The Sun confirmed that she and Gigi Hadid will be in Tay’s bridal party, with a source saying, “Taylor wants to start the wedding process this way—building her bridesmaid group and getting everyone involved in the preparations, celebrations, and planning. She wants it to be fun and memorable for everyone, with parties, trips, and time spent together leading up to the big day.”
