Does The Mandalorian & Grogu have a tragic ending or does it leave the possibility for future dynamic duo adventures wide open? The movie is a lot more tense than you might think. Here’s the debrief on the ending of The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian & Grogu!

The film kicks off with our bounty hunter hero agreeing to rescue “Rotta the Hutt,” a member of a notoriously criminal family formerly lead by Rotta’s dad Jabba, because the New Republic needs their new twin leaders to divulge information about a mysterious Imperial warlord named Commander Coin. As fate would have it, Rotta was captured by Coin, who has been running gladiator fights under the name Lord Janu. Does that make things easier for Din Djarin and Grogu? Absolutely not. Moral quandaries and deadly complications threaten to separate the little team for good.

Does the Mandalorian actually die?

No, come on. Even though it’s rated PG-13, this is a kid’s movie. I didn’t actually think Din Djarin would get killed. But it was dicey there for a minute! He was poisoned and shot at while escaping the Hutt palace. He said goodbye to his adopted son and urged him to leave the planet without him. But the little guy stayed behind, and used both local foliage, a remedy he learned from a fisherman, and his force-healing powers to keep his Dad alive. This is, in my humble opinion, the best part of the film. I could watch Grogu putter around the jungle making food, shelter, and medicine for hours.

You probably guessed this if you watch the television series, but unfortunately the Mandalorian doesn’t decide to stop wearing his helmet either. It comes off during the film, but his faith in his hokey religion and its balaclavic traditions does not waver. He doesn’t seem to care that he looks like Pedro Pascal and should be seen by as many people as the galaxy far, far away will allow. Whatever, dude!

What happened with Rotta the Hutt?

Din and Grogu go back to the Hutt palace to kill the twins and rescue Rotta. With a last-minute assist from the New Republic army, they all manage to blow everything up and escape. So, Jabba’s punk son Rotta the Hutt survives to the end of The Mandalorian and Grogu as well. Again, that’s nor surprising for a kid’s movie. Nor did he take over his family’s criminal syndicate. While I personally hoped he would go live with Din and Grogu after all is said and done, Rotta instead suited up and joined the New Republic. Still, in theory, all three could return for a sequel.

In the final moments of the film, we also learn that Rotta’s aunt and uncle (a.k.a. “the Twins”) were secretly working with Lord Janu Coin. That means that Din is more or less off the hook for disobeying orders and going after the people who hired him.

Is there a post-credits tease in The Mandalorian and Grogu?

It does not! You are free to leave as soon as the credits roll. However, I will say, the score kind of pops off during the credits.
