The BenQ MA270S has finally hit the stores. We’ve already covered this 27-inch 5K monitor when it was released and talked about how it was designed to compete directly with the Apple Studio Display. Because of its features, this product is marketed toward macOS users, offering comparable high-end display specifications at approximately half the retail price of Apple’s counterpart.

Display and Performance

The BenQ MA270S features a 27-inch IPS LED-backlit panel with a 5K resolution. It offers 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, ensuring high color accuracy for creative professionals. To improve visibility in bright environments, the screen includes a nano-texture anti-reflective coating.

Technically, the monitor stands out with a 2000:1 contrast ratio and a 70 Hz refresh rate, slightly exceeding the standard 60 Hz found in many professional displays. While it lacks an integrated webcam—a standard feature on the Studio Display—it focuses heavily on software integration. Through BenQ’s Display Pilot 2 software, the monitor allows for seamless color calibration and brightness control directly through the macOS interface.

Connectivity

The monitor serves as a functional workstation hub, featuring Thunderbolt 4 connectivity with 96W Power Delivery, capable of charging a MacBook Pro at high speeds. It also includes a Smart KVM switch, which enables users to control and transfer files between two different computer systems using a single set of peripherals.

Unlike the Apple Studio Display, which requires a significant surcharge for a height-adjustable stand, the MA270S includes a fully ergonomic stand as standard. This base supports height adjustment, tilt, swivel, and pivot (rotation to portrait mode) at no additional cost. For audio, the unit is equipped with dual 3W internal speakers and a dedicated headphone jack. It also holds TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light and flicker-free performance.

The BenQ MA270S is currently available in major markets. In the United States, it is priced at $999, significantly lower than the $1,599 starting price of the Studio Display.
