Since we released gift subscriptions a few months ago, your biggest fans have been able to share full access to your work with the people they think will love it. As they've done so, we've been listening to your feedback to help shape where gift subscriptions go next.

You've told us that sending a gift should feel more personal, without all the effort falling on the buyer. That gifts originally came in one month or one year, but that the occasion often calls for something in between. And that gifting should be somewhere readers can find on their own.

Personalized delivery

Buying a gift now feels like giving one. At checkout, buyers can add a personal message and pick the day the gift arrives. Ghost delivers it by email, automatically.

The recipient won't hear a thing until the gift lands. And the subscription only starts when they redeem it, so a year-long gift opened on Christmas morning runs all the way to next Christmas. Buyers stay in the loop the whole time, with a confirmation when the gift is scheduled and a heads-up the moment it's delivered.

More gift lengths

3 and 6 month gifts are joining the existing 1 month and 1 year options. Prices are calculated automatically from your existing tiers, so there's nothing to configure and no separate gift pricing to maintain.

Gifting in Portal

From now on, a gift option appears on the signup page and in member accounts, right at the moments readers are already thinking about memberships. Both entry points are on by default — you can change this anytime in Settings → Portal in Ghost Admin.

Ghost(Pro) users can log in and start enjoying all of this right away! If you're a developer, self-hosting Ghost, you'll need to update to the latest version to get access to everything that's new.
