Customizable checkout flows
Justin Duke · 2025-09-22 · via Buttondown's blog

Hey folks! We've got a quick update about how we handle payments going forward.

We're phasing out our use of Stripe's payment links internally. If you've already got payment links set up, don't worry — they'll keep working forever! Your subscribers won't see any disruption, and existing links will continue to process payments just as they always have.

But here's the thing: we're not actively surfacing these links to new subscribers anymore, and we're shifting our focus away from them internally. Why? Well, we're building something better!

This change is part of a bigger push to bring more of the checkout experience in-house. Instead of relying on Stripe's hosted pages (which, let's be honest, can feel a bit generic), we're creating customizable checkout flows that both you and we can actually control. Want to match your brand colors? Add custom messaging? Create a seamless experience that feels like it belongs on your site? That's where we're headed.

Again, cannot emphasize enough: no links are breaking, no effort is required. We're moving the cheese, so to speak, but you should ideally never have to pay attention to this specific varietal of cheese ever again.
