Protect physical, virtual, and modern hypervisor environments with a cost-effective platform that delivers secure backup, rapid recovery, cyber-resilient restoration, immutable storage, and long-term data retention.

25+ years of trusted enterprise data protection

Catalogic DPX is a unified enterprise data protection platform that safeguards and recovers physical servers, virtual machines, business-critical applications, and NAS storage from a single console. Patented block-level backup, agentless VMware, Hyper-V, and Proxmox protection, and built-in ransomware detection keep recovery fast, complete, and trustworthy — without appliance lock-in or runaway storage costs.

Key product highlights

  • Robust Backup & Recovery: Patented block-level backup cuts backup time and system impact by up to 90%. Agentless VMware (VADP), Hyper-V, and Proxmox backup eliminate per-VM agents, with application-consistent protection for SQL Server, Oracle, and SAP HANA, file server and NAS backup including NDMP, bare metal recovery to the same or dissimilar hardware, and S3-compatible object storage protection.
  • Rapid, Granular Recovery: Instant Access mounts a block backup as a writable network drive with no waiting for a full restore. Instant VM Restore boots a VM directly from backup storage within minutes, and Rapid Return to Production migrates it to permanent storage in the background. Granular file, folder, and application-object recovery (Exchange, SharePoint, SQL) is available from any restore point, and vStor Snapshot Explorer browses and restores individual files from a snapshot.
  • Proactive Ransomware Defense: DPX GuardMode detects ransomware-like behavior and suspicious or encrypted files early. Backup verification confirms VMware and block backups are restore-ready before recovery, vStor immutable snapshots add deletion lock and MFA-backed protection controls, and air-gapped, offline tape archives serve as a last line of defense against network-based attacks.
  • Flexible, Cost-Efficient Storage: vStor is a software-defined backup repository that deploys as a virtual appliance or on physical infrastructure, with no appliance lock-in. ZFS-powered deduplication and compression reduce backup storage footprint, replication to a second vStor target supports site resilience, and archive targets include cloud object storage (Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, and more), tape, or disk — with no additional licensing cost for vStor repositories.

Built for a market in transition

Enterprise backup decisions now come down to a few structural questions: what this costs at scale, whether it locks your architecture into one shape, who can access your data, and whether the backup itself is safe from attack. DPX and vStor are self-hosted by design, with straightforward node/socket or capacity-based licensing and no extra charge for the vStor repository. Agentless VMware, Hyper-V, and Proxmox protection sit alongside agent-based block-level backup for physical Windows and Linux servers, all from one console — so as your hypervisor mix changes, your backup strategy doesn’t have to.

Requirements and supported platforms

The reference DPX configuration supports an enterprise with up to 300 clients and approximately 25 concurrent jobs, with larger environments accommodated by additional master servers. DPX supports VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Scale Computing, Proxmox VE, and OpenStack hypervisors; Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Linux, SUSE Linux, Ubuntu, and UNIX operating systems; Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, SAP HANA, OpenText/Micro Focus OES, and NetApp ONTAP applications and databases; and DPX vStor, disk, NetApp, S3-compatible cloud object storage, and LTO tape (including LTO-9) for backup storage.
