DPX 4.16 expands agentless virtualization coverage and cyber resilience

DPX 4.16 extends agentless hypervisor protection to Proxmox, strengthens audit and compliance capabilities in vStor, and adds support for security-hardened VMware workloads.

The release also improves disaster recovery flexibility for multi-VM and archive restores, brings tape library management fully into the web UI, and introduces a single unified update package for every DPX component.

Protect Proxmox virtual machines without agents

DPX adds agentless Proxmox backup and recovery as a supported workload, with full and incremental backups to vStor, backup job scheduling, and Proxmox node management available directly from the web UI.

This extends the enterprise-grade workflows already available for VMware, Hyper-V, physical servers, and cloud workloads, giving administrators one platform to manage data protection across hybrid, multi-hypervisor environments instead of maintaining separate tools per platform.

Strengthen compliance with end-to-end audit logging in vStor

vStor now captures a full audit trail of REST and system-level actions in both the web UI and backend, with configurable retention, filtering, pagination, and CSV export.

This gives compliance and security teams the visibility needed for forensic investigation and accountability, without relying on external logging tools.

Back up and restore VMware virtual machines protected with vTPM

DPX 4.16 adds backup and restore support for VMware virtual machines encrypted with a Virtual Trusted Platform Module (vTPM), extending compatibility to secured VM configurations.

Recover faster with disaster recovery and restore improvements

Multi-VM restore can now use an alternate secondary vStor volume, allowing recovery to proceed even when the original volume information is no longer available in DPX — a common scenario during disaster recovery from archive.

Block Archive and VMware Archive restores are now fully integrated into the modern web UI. VMware Archive restore is combined with the Multi-VM restore workflow, so administrators can restore multiple VMware VMs from an archive in a single flow instead of defining separate job definitions. The Rapid Return to Production (RRP) migration process — which can run for hours in large environments — now reports live progress and tracks like any other job.

Manage tape libraries entirely from the web UI

Tape library management is significantly expanded in the web console, including tape registration, import and export slot management, automated library scans, and a library view that more accurately reflects the physical state of the library, refreshing more frequently without navigating away and back.

vStor gets faster, more consistent, and easier to manage

Volume move is now consistently labeled volume migration across the UI, with migration tasks visible in a global task list showing estimated completion time and throughput, plus suspend and resume support. Filtering has been standardized across all remaining legacy areas of the product, snapshot list entries now indicate associated clones with direct navigation to them, and mounted images support RAW file restore to SMB shares using relative paths. Replication and offload workflows, restore dialogs, and interface consistency also see broad usability improvements, and vStor now correctly reclaims storage after backup expiry for VMs that have been removed from the environment.

Update every DPX component with one unified ISO

DPX 4.16 replaces the separate update ISOs previously required for the DPX appliance, vStor appliance, physical DPX, physical vStor, virtualization proxy appliance, and backup appliance with a single unified update artifact and script — simplifying maintenance across mixed deployments.

DPX 4.16 feature summary

DPX 4.16 includes:

  • Agentless backup and restore for Proxmox virtual machines.
  • End-to-end audit logging in vStor with retention, filtering, and CSV export.
  • Backup and restore support for VMware VMs protected with vTPM.
  • Alternate secondary volume support for Multi-VM restore.
  • Block Archive and VMware Archive restore integrated into the web UI.
  • Job instance tracking for Rapid Return to Production (RRP).
  • Full tape library management in the web UI, including registration and automated scans.
  • Volume migration visibility with ETA, throughput, and suspend/resume.
  • RAW file restore to SMB shares with relative paths.
  • A single unified update ISO for all DPX and vStor deployment types.
