AI app revenues increase by 180% in 2025 to $18.5 billion

A global AI boom is underway, driving expectations of massive value creation and productivity gains, with the app industry firmly at the centre of that momentum.

Revenues from these apps reached $18.5 billion in 2025, according to the AI App Report, an 180 percent increase on the previous year. That’s a phenomenal amount of growth, and we estimate that it will continue to grow at a fast rate with a compound annual growth rate of 31.1 percent from 2026 to 2030.

Chatbots make up most of this revenue and ChatGPT is the behemoth in the industry, contributing to 66 percent of the total revenues in 2025. It has millions of users signed up to its $20 a month Plus plan, which lets them access the latest models and have priority bandwidth.

Is your privacy opt-in rate costing you $525,000 a year?

The gap between a 65% and 90%+ privacy opt-in rate can mean $525,000 in lost revenue annually for a 100K DAU app — and most teams have no idea where they stand.

This guide breaks down the true cost of consent debt, why the average app sits at just 80% opt-in, and the exact tactics top performers use to consistently hit 90%+: prompt timing, banner design, vendor list optimization, and more.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT has close to one billion users and plenty of them access the chatbot on mobile. Total users surpassed 1.1 billion in the second half of 2025, with 374 million users added in that time period alone.

In terms of installs, generative AI apps surpassed three billion in the second half of 2025, an increase of 34 percent on the first half of the year.

Obviously a lot of the AI revenue growth will be seen on the enterprise side of the market. Millions of businesses are reorienting themselves around AI, embedding GPT, Claude and other AI models into their systems. These pay a lot more per head than mobile consumers. But the AI app market is still in for a strong few years of growth as these apps mature, and newer apps offering generative tools to make videos, music and games launch.
