Monitor alerts and events with OpsGenie and Datadog

We’re excited to announce an enhanced bidirectional integration with our friends at OpsGenie. OpsGenie’s SaaS solution delivers notifications of triggered alerts for all infrastructure components and applications monitored by Datadog. OpsGenie sends timely, actionable notices to the right people at the right time through email, SMS, phone calls, push notifications, and chat and collaboration channels such as Slack. This enables responders to assess a situation, resolve the issues quickly, and take preventive steps to avoid similar situations in the future.

If you are an OpsGenie customer, this integration is available to you today in Datadog. Sign up for a Datadog trial to get the most out of your OpsGenie data.

What can you do with the OpsGenie integration?

OpsGenie’s integration with Datadog means that your Datadog alerts are automatically synced with those in OpsGenie, creating a powerful solution for alert notification and incident response orchestration, with OpsGenie’s smart escalation rules, plus on-call schedules and rotations.

1. Datadog triggers an alert when it detects a problem. With the OpsGenie integration, when Datadog creates an alert, OpsGenie automatically creates one too.

Monitor OpsGenie Integration

2. You can create alerts in OpsGenie from the Datadog UI by using @mentions when you create, acknowledge, or close alerts from your Datadog event stream. And any alert action you execute in OpsGenie will automatically trigger a notification in Datadog.

3. When an alert is created in OpsGenie from any source other than Datadog, OpsGenie can post the alert to Datadog, too.

4. Datadog will import OpsGenie alerts—throughout their entire lifecycle from creation until resolution—into the Datadog event stream so that they can be used for discussion in Datadog during or after the incident. Now, when defining how best to get alerted, in addition to the previous communication channels, OpsGenie integrates with a variety of chat and collaboration tools, such as Slack and HipChat. This way also enables advanced ChatOps capabilities.

5. You can alert an entire distribution list. Using the “acknowledge” and “close” tags (e.g., @opsgenie-acknowledge and @opsgenie-close) from the Datadog event stream, you can claim an issue and update the alert status for all to see in OpsGenie.

Monitor OpsGenie Integration

6. By sending Datadog alerts to OpsGenie, you can take full advantage of OpsGenie’s alerting and incident response capabilities, such as defining the right recipients for your alerts, as well as defining severity levels of incidents and prioritizing them based on their impact on your business. You can also notify multiple teams to collaborate on the incident for faster and more effective incident resolution. OpsGenie allows you to consolidate related alerts into one incident to help your teams deal with large numbers of alerts, saving time and ensuring that no alert is lost.

7. This integration lets you correlate metrics and alerts very easily, as in this example. Alerts (the pink bars) triggered after peaks of high I/O wait time are displayed on top of the actual wait time graph.

OpsGenie’s bidirectional integration with Datadog lets you take advantage of OpsGenie’s rich notification features to respond to your incidents faster and more effectively. Monitor your entire IT infrastructure and receive important server, database, and application events and alerts by signing up for a free trial of Datadog.
