FLUX.1 Kontext from the community – Replicate blog
2025-06-02 · via Replicate's blog

In case you missed it: FLUX.1 Kontext launched last week. Judging by the reaction, most of you didn’t - but here’s the TL;DR:

FLUX.1 Kontext is a new image editing model from Black Forest Labs. It’s top of its class for text-based image editing - better, cheaper, and no yellow tint compared to OpenAI’s 4o.

There are three models:

  • FLUX.1 Kontext [pro]: High-quality image edits with strong prompt following.
  • FLUX.1 Kontext [max]: Top-tier performance with sharper typography.
  • FLUX.1 Kontext [dev] (coming soon): Open-weight version.

Kontext can handle small tweaks and big changes—like color swaps, background edits, text replacements, and style transfers—while keeping characters consistent.

Some prompting tips for you:

  • Be specific.
  • Start simple.
  • Preserve key elements.
  • Break big edits into steps.
  • Quote text.

Since launch, the Replicate community has been exploring Kontext in familiar but also new and novel ways. Hair color swaps, professional headshots, travel photos to anywhere in the world — if you can think, people are making it happen with a few words and a click.

Check out some great examples from our community:

  • Change your lookJustine Moore showed off a haircut transformation, changing hairstyle and color with a simple prompt.
  • Create professional headshotsHBCoop_ generated clean, polished headshots — perfect for LinkedIn, portfolios, or anything else that needs a sharp first impression.

Can we talk about how mind-blowing it is that we can use a single image to generate headshots or edit images in less than 10 seconds with @bfl_ml FLUX.1 Kontext?

  • Restore and reimagine imagesClearstory3D used Kontext to restore and clean up old or degraded images, breathing new life into them.
  • Reformat your photosfofrAI and lucataco93 demonstrated how easy it is to extend a 16:9 image to vertical 9:16 for social content — keeping everything sharp and consistent.

Here's a fun use of Kontext – you can use it to change the aspect ratio of an input. Change the aspect ratio from "match_input_image" to anything different.

Prompt:
> make the image taller

Probably pretty good for making iPhone wallpapers out of anything.… pic.twitter.com/feQ0t6iLFy

  • Remove unwanted textfofrAI also used Kontext for intelligent inpainting, seamlessly removing text from an image without any artifacts.

We also launched Kontext Chat, making it even easier to generate and edit images through a conversational interface — no perfect prompts required.

If you want to get started with Kontext quickly, we’ve released a set of ready-to-use Kontext apps — from hairstyle changers to portrait generators — you can jump straight into editing without writing a single line of code.

We’re seeing Kontext show up in workflows on Discord, Reddit, and beyond. People are already baking it into creative projects, product mockups, and even day-to-day design work. It’s exciting to watch the limits of language-guided editing get pushed further every day.

If you’ve been using FLUX.1 Kontext, we’d love to see what you’ve made. Tag us on X and join the conversation on our Discord.
