I want to recap some highlights from 2022 and share some exciting news!

First off, I’m delighted to share that Pinecone, the company providing long-term memory for AI, successfully created a new product category with our vector database. By making Pinecone extremely easy to use, cost effective and performant at scale, and enterprise ready, it is now the obvious choice for most developers looking for a production-grade vector database.

As a result, we had a phenomenal first year in the market. As of Dec 31, 2022, thousands of developers are building new applications on our free plan and over 200 paying customers are running in production, these include Workday, Xandr (Microsoft), Gong, Course Hero, BambooHR, Expel, and Zapier and many others. As wild as our growth has been in 2022, 2023 started off much wilder… I’ll post about that soon.

Second, I’m excited to welcome Bob Wiederhold, as our new President and COO! Bob’s been an active advisor to Pinecone and board member for the past 15 months, and we’re thrilled to have him on board full-time. Bob’s been a CEO for deep tech/infrastructure companies for the past 30 years. Most recently, Bob was the CEO and Executive Chairman of Couchbase, before that he led Transitive, the worldwide leader in cross-platform virtualization with over 20M users, and Tality Corporation, whose revenues grew to over $200M during his time as CEO.

Except for our shared love for surfing, we share a deep passion for transformative technologies and for building iconic products and companies. Bob is joining us at a crucial time in which we need to innovate and scale our business just as fast as we do with our technology. Bob is one of the only people in the world who can help us keep or even accelerate our breakneck growth.

All in all, it’s an extremely exciting time at Pinecone as we continue to grow and power the AI applications behind some of the world’s greatest companies. I’m grateful to our creative developers and loyal customers for being a part of the journey with us.
