UFC Freedom 250 could be the biggest event in the promotion's history. With each passing day as we get closer to Sunday, June 14, there are more signals to show how big the event will be. Most recently, UFC President Dana White announced new record-high bonuses for the Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night. Let's talk MMA.
Not counting finishes, the UFC is set to award over $1.6 million in bonuses. That gives some evidence about how much the main-eventers are likely pulling for their efforts. For perspective on the money in play, Jon Jones said the UFC wouldn't go higher than $15 million to bring him onto the card, an offer he rejected as too low after previously eyeing closer to $30 million for a Tom Aspinall bout.
The UFC wants to put a serious stamp on this event and it has also received sponsorship from outside entities to contribute to the bonuses for the top performers.
That extra money makes Freedom 250 the largest bonus night in UFC history, clearing the previous record of $300,000 set at UFC 300 by $100,000 on Fight of the Night and $125,000 on Performance of the Night. For years the standard fight-night bonuses sat at $50,000 before doubling to $100,000 with this year’s Paramount broadcast deal.
From a business and financial standpoint, this event has drawn tons of contributions.
Dana White said World Liberty Financial is adding $250,000 to the pool as a presenting partner, with Crypto.com also contributing as a sponsor. Those checks stack on top of the bonus increases that already arrived with the new Paramount broadcast deal.
Whether you agree with the concepts and philosophy of the current president, it’s tough to deny the significance of any promotion putting on an event on the White House lawn. On top of that, with Alex Pereira and Ilia Topuria in action, the UFC has two of its biggest stars in action on the card.
