The biggest 154-pound title fight of the year and one of the biggest boxing matches of the year is almost here. Xander Zayas and Jaron 'Boots' Ennis will meet in the biggest fight of either man's career. Here's everything you need to know. Let's talk boxing.
I've spoken with both Zayas and Ennis ahead of this bout. Both men swear to put on a show in the biggest fights of their careers. Thankfully, fight fans won't have to wait long.
The DAZN broadcast opens at 8:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT, with main-event ring walks expected around 10:45 p.m. ET, depending on how the undercard runs. That mirrors the late-main-event timing DAZN used for other recent pay-per-views. Doors at Barclays open in the early evening, and West Coast fans can expect the main event closer to 8 p.m. PT.
In addition to the WBO and WBA titles, supremacy at 154 pounds, which could lead to a unification fight with Sebastian Fundora or Josh Kelly and a possible spot in the pound-for-pound rankings.
The 154-pound division is loaded, and a win positions the victor for a unification bid against WBC champion Sebastian Fundora or IBF titleholder Josh Kelly, both of whom have name-checked these fighters. Ennis enters as the betting favorite, but Zayas owns size and reach edges and has vowed to push the fight into the deep rounds. For the winner, a pound-for-pound jump is squarely on the table.
The Barclays Center in Brooklyn is quickly becoming a staple for major fights in the sport, and Zayas-Ennis is set to add to the growing history of championship fights in BK.
