Fatekeeper

Fatekeeper

Credit: THQ Nordic

THQ Nordic is on a run.

The company is partnering with Paraglacial to push out Fatekeeper, another action RPG that is set to drop around the same time as the Gothic 1 Remake. Fatekeeper is a first-person dark fantasy action RPG that is powered by a physics-heavy melee fight engine that also carries spellcasting concepts.

The game looks beautiful in trailers, and that's no surprise considering it runs on Unreal 5. Let's take a closer look.

Key Facts At A Glance

  • Title: Fatekeeper
  • Genre: First-person dark fantasy action RPG (sword and sorcery)
  • Developer: Paraglacial (13-person German studio)
  • Publisher: THQ Nordic
  • Early Access launch: June 2, 2026 (Steam, PC)
  • Early Access window: Roughly 18 months before full 1.0 release
  • Content scope: About 2 hours at launch, targeting around 15 hours at full release
  • Platforms later: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S after Early Access concludes
  • Price: Not yet posted; launching at a significant discount that rises over time

When Is The Fatekeeper Release Date?

The initial trailers have gotten tons of attention, which could power a push toward early access. Fatekeeper lands on Steam Early Access on June 2, 2026, and PC is the only platform at launch.

MORE FOR YOU

Paraglacial has framed the Early Access stretch as a roughly 18-month runway before the full 1.0 release. The studio has also pointed to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions arriving after the Early Access period wraps, though no firm console dates are locked in yet.

For context on how this fits the current Early Access wave, Subnautica 2 took a similar staged path into a multi-year development window.

If you’re purely a console player like me, this might be a frustrating read.

How Do Fatekeeper Pre-Orders Work?

Fatekeeper has a serious pre-order incentive because it is tied to early access. Because curiosity will be high for this release, that's a smart play. With more than a handful of influencers likely to give it a spin while they wait for Grand Theft Auto 6, there's a window for Fatekeeper to make a splash.

Right now, the Steam page lists the game as "Coming Soon" with wishlisting available rather than a posted price. Paraglacial has confirmed the Early Access build will launch at a significant discount and climb as content and systems are layered in.

That structure rewards early adopters with the lowest entry point, similar to how Forza Horizon 6 leaned on early access to get players in ahead of a wider rollout.

What Is Fatekeeper And Who Is Making It?

Fatekeeper is gritty, gory and unapologetically violent in a fantasy environment. The world features crude weapons, relics and mystical creatures to battle.

The team behind it is small. Paraglacial is a 13-person German studio that cut its teeth assisting on SpellForce 3 and its expansions before making Fatekeeper its debut original project, with THQ Nordic publishing.

The design leans on physics-heavy melee, spell schools and a handcrafted world of ruins, with build pillars across stealth, agility and sorcery. The studio has cited the cancelled Techland project Hellraid and the cult classic Dark Messiah of Might and Magic as touchstones rather than the modern Soulslike wave.

Should You Buy Fatekeeper In Early Access?

Based on what we've seen, if you're into this genre, it's kind of hard to imagine a fan of the concept being turned off. However, we don't know for sure until we've had the controller in our hands to give it a whirl.

Because it's an unproven franchise, there could be some trepidation, which can stagnate the pre-order push. That said, FOMO is real, and if videos begin popping up during early access, fans of the genre may want in.

The honest caveat is the content scope: the launch build runs about two hours, with the full 15-hour version still well down the road. If you want a finished campaign and balanced systems, wishlisting and waiting deeper into the 18-month window is the safer move.

On the hardware side, the minimum specs call for Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 3070 or RX 6800 XT with 8GB of VRAM. That's a fairly modern baseline, so it's worth checking your rig before committing.
