Apple reached a $250 million settlement in a class action lawsuit on Wednesday, May 7, 2026. The suit concerned the delay to the launch of the more personalized Siri which was announced in June 2024. But payouts are not automatic. Here’s who is eligible and how to apply.

The Case Over Missing Apple Intelligence

The lawsuit alleged that Apple had promoted AI capabilities that “did not exist at the time, do not exist now, and will not exist for two or more years,” it said. Some features have still not launched.

Apple settled the lawsuit and while it did not admit wrongdoing, it pointed out the many Apple Intelligence features which did go live, from Live Translation and Writing Tools to Genmoji and Visual Intelligence.

In a statement to 9to5Mac, Apple clarified its position: “Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features. We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users,” it said.

Who Is Eligible?

You’re eligible if you bought one of these phones between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max or iPhone 16e.

“Although Apple hadn’t made its new Siri promises at the time the iPhone 15 lineup was launched, owners of the Pro models are eligible because those devices are still capable of running the new features. In other words, the promises Apple made applied to those customers too,” 9to5Mac commented.

What Will The Payouts Be?

“Payouts between $25 and $95 per eligible device are expected,” CNet reported, saying that around 36 million customers may qualify.

How Can You Claim?

Right now, hang tight. The settlement approval is scheduled for June 17, 2026 and Apple must provide information about affected customers within five days of the approval. There’s then a 45-day period to let customers know they’re eligible.

There’s no settlement website right now but there will be and eligible customers have to file a claim — as mentioned above, there’s no automatic payout. Payments will begin around September, it’s thought, and claims must be made within 90 days after customers receive their notice.
