Eve Systems is expanding the reach of its smart shading with a new motor option for the Eve MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit, which opens up compatibility to slimmer roller blind tubes and brings IKEA’s popular Fridans blinds into the mix.

The update adds support for roller blind tubes measuring 25–30 mm in diameter and a minimum blind width of 22 inches.

An included adapter set lets the motor slot into a wider range of existing blind setups, focusing on retrofit use rather than full replacements.

While the original version continues to support larger roller blind tubes, the new variant is aimed at slimmer designs commonly found in budget and mid-range blinds.

The system still relies on Matter over Thread, which means it’s compatible with all of the major (and minor) smart home platforms and should remain pretty future-proof as ecosystems evolve.

As mentioned, one of the most notable additions is compatibility with IKEA’s Fridans roller blinds, a widely used budget option in homes globally.

With this update, owners of these blackout roller blinds can now add app control, schedules, and automation without swapping out their existing blinds.

Making your dumb blinds smart means things like timed opening and closing, sunrise and sunset routines and presence-based automations when paired with a Matter-compatible platform.

Users can also set favorite positions that can be triggered either in-app or directly on the device.

The package includes mounting brackets, covers, and multiple adapters designed to support different roller blind tube types.

The system also includes Adaptive Shading, which adjusts blind positioning based on the sun’s movement to help manage indoor temperature and light levels throughout the day.

Power comes from a rechargeable battery that charges over USB-C, with Eve stating it can last up to a year on a single charge under typical usage conditions.
