On Aug. 12, 2026, the moon’s shadow will race across eastern Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain, bringing one of nature’s rarest and most dramatic spectacles: a total solar eclipse. Time is running out to grab a ringside seat — but there are still options available.
Although total eclipses occur somewhere on Earth roughly every 16 months, they are exceptionally rare for any specific place because the path of totality is narrow and occurs mostly at sea. For a few fleeting minutes, observers inside the moon’s dark central shadow — the umbra — will see the sun completely covered, revealing the spectacular solar corona and plunging landscapes into an eerie twilight. However, where you stand matters enormously — and a growing number of luxury hotels, expedition cruises, wellness retreats and private charter flights are now building exclusive travel experiences around the eclipse.
EYOS Expeditions is offering a voyage into Greenland’s Scoresby Sund aboard the expedition yacht Aqua Lares, a former Class 1 icebreaker refitted for refined polar travel. The seven-day voyage (Aug. 11–18) includes talks from former NASA astronaut Kathy Sullivan and photography guidance from expedition photographer David Wright. Amenities include a Balinese spa, a cinema, a heli deck, cold-water diving equipment, and polar exploration gear, with cabins starting at $32,000 per person. Totality will occur in the late afternoon for around 2 minutes and 17 seconds.

AstroTrails has limited rooms on an 11-day eclipse-themed tour through Barcelona, Valencia, Córdoba, Seville and Madrid, culminating in eclipse viewing from Sigüenza Castle in central Spain, where totality will last 1 minute and 39 seconds, just 45 minutes before sunset. The itinerary combines high-speed rail travel, historic cities and optional cultural excursions. Prices start at $3,625 per person sharing, including accommodation, breakfasts, transportation and eclipse-day transfers.

One day to maximize your chance of a clear sky for the eclipse is to fly to wherever that’s most likely. Air Charter Service offers an eclipse charter flight from London Stansted Airport that gives eclipse chasers flexibility by delaying the final destination decision until close to departure day, allowing organizers to target the clearest skies. The same-day return service will fly passengers either to Valladolid or the Balearic Islands in Spain, or to Keflavík in Iceland, depending on weather forecasts and cloud prospects. Packages start at $1,200 and include eclipse-day ground transfers, meals and baggage allowances for telescopes and photography equipment.
Nômade Temple Ibiza is offering a week-long “Sacred Sun” retreat built around the eclipse, which will occur at sunset over Ibiza’s western horizon. Timed for Aug. 9–16, the package combines guided eclipse viewing from a secluded location with yoga, breathwork, sound healing and Perseid meteor shower stargazing the following evening. Accommodation ranges from seafront villas with private pools to lofts with sound studios, with packages starting at €1,295 and requiring a minimum three-night stay

Exeter Hotel is offering eclipse packages in Reykjavík, Iceland’s first total solar eclipse since 1433. The hotel’s two-night minimum-stay package includes accommodation, breakfast and sauna access during the Aug. 10–14 eclipse period. Private eclipse events will take place at Harpa, Reykjavík EDITION, Perlan and Sky Lagoon, with public viewing areas along the Reykjavík waterfront south of the center at Hreystivöllur, and the Seltjarnarnes peninsula, just west of the center, is also expected to attract thousands of eclipse chasers. Totality will begin at about 5:48 p.m. GMT and last about 1 minute.
Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay has created a five-night “Beyond the Sun” eclipse package pairing guided eclipse excursions with wellness programming and luxury dining. Although the hotel sits on Ibiza’s east coast at Talamanca Bay — facing away from the eclipsed sunset sun in the west — the package includes a guided hike to elevated viewpoints elsewhere on the island chosen for clear views of totality. The following evening, guests will join a separate guided hike to watch the Perseid meteor shower under dark skies. The experience also includes yoga, breathwork, sound healing and Spa by Six Senses treatments, alongside Mediterranean-style accommodation, beachside dining and private transfers for all eclipse activities.
