Destiny 2

Bungie

Destiny 2 has been so devoid of content for so long now that it has lost the attention of nearly everyone, myself included. But it is returning with new content and changes in a June update, at least at one point called Shadow and Order, which was delayed three months from its original March date, dangerously close to the Marathon launch. But that has been…a long delay.

So far as we know, it’s still coming out in a month or so, but Bungie has only given the barest of information about what’s on the way. Nothing about the actual content in terms of new activities or god willing, some sort of new story content, but additions mainly based around loot and existing activities.

I want to give 100% credit to LukeCB14 here who originally assembled this list which includes things I forgot about until now. I’ll go through the line items and boy, this is sparse so far.

  • All old raids and dungeons are getting refreshed, tiered loot, and also armor set bonuses. This is one of many items here I would label as “catching up to where things should have already been” as the tiered system should have launched with all earnable, playable loot using that, especially aspirational endgame content. One catch here is that all these refreshed activities are not launching all at once here and will be rolled out over some amount of time. Probably a long time.
  • Pantheon is returning, which may alleviate at least some of my concern that even finding teams to run things like old raids in the current state of the game, be it friends or god forbid, fireteam finder, would be hard. At least Pantheon is more of a focused motivator.

  • Crafting and Adept raid weapons will be upgraded with new perks and will be able to match Tier 5s in terms of power and options. Players will now be able to upgrade tiers of weapons. Exotic armor will have a tier stat system now. Again, I have to file all of this under “this all should have been here from the start,” and I’m only going to give so much credit to catching up to obvious things that were needed 11 months ago when the tier system began.
  • There was a survey from dmg about what modifier pairings players did or did not want to see in The Portal. Obviously this means something drastic happening like The Portal getting deleted is not happening the way some may have hoped for. That was likely never in the cards.
  • Gambit may be getting a loot refresh, which, you would hope, includes tiered weapons.
  • Iron Banner is getting a new armor set and more weapons in its loot pool in what is essentially the only confirmed PvP update we’ve heard about for now. The mode will also return to a more “regular cadence” after yawning gaps of time without it.
  • Bright engrams are being “improved” to be more rewarding. The upcoming Marathon and Destiny crossover armor ornaments will be earnable in the game somehow. Not sure whether that’s for Bright Dust or some other actual gameplay thing.
  • Onslaught is going through some changes as its Portal version is a nightmare compared to how it was originally launched.
  • Dmg says the Crota’s End set bonus and the season pass exotic weapon are “fun.” Welp.

Destiny 2

Bungie

We are supposed to get more official news about what’s coming ahead of June, so late this month, I imagine. The problem here is that I find exactly none of this exciting or a reason to return in any meaningful capacity. Truly getting back into the game would require a new, fun activity and new, good loot, which is something that the last major update Ash and Iron, did not have at all. So many of these additions are things that should have come with the tier system at launch, which is disappointing.
