A new leak has revealed what it claims are the smart glasses that Samsung has said it’s working on. The new images show specs which seem likely to take on Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta smart models.

Like the Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta HSTN and Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses, the Samsung model looks like it has hidden speakers and no screen.
Also like Meta, Samsung has said it will collaborate with fashion brands for its frames: where Meta has EssilorLuxotica, Samsung is working with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
“These are the Samsung Galaxy Glasses, which the company plans to announce later this year as its second Android XR product,”. Android Headlines rather bullishly reported, alongside images of what are claimed to be the new glasses.
The frames look like conventional specs, with the thicker arms commonplace on smart glasses to house the electronics, speakers and battery. There’s a camera, it looks like, on the outside edge of one lens with what’s presumably a light on the other edge to balance the aesthetics. The light will likely be used to indicate when a photo is being taken or a video shot.
The camera, Android Headlines says, is a 12-megapixel sensor made by Sony — the same resolution as on Meta’s eyewear.
According to the report, the glasses will use Android XR, the same system used in the Galaxy XR headset, and will include Gemini, so the glasses “would allow you to ask Gemini to translate signs, take photos, ask about the weather, get directions using Google Maps, and much more. There’s no doubt about it, Gemini is definitely a much better AI than what Meta has right now. So this is where Samsung is really going to have a leg up on the competition,” it said.
There’s still a lot to be revealed. Bone-conduction technology was mentioned in Samsung patents but it’s not clear if this will be the only way audio will be relayed to the wearer.
But it may be that there won’t be much longer to wait. It’s thought that the Google I/O event in May will be when the glasses will be talked about and perhaps officially unveiled, though the big reveal will surely come at the next Galaxy Unpacked, expected later in the year.
