We're moving closer to summer and the thirst for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is as real as the uptick in temperatures. Unfortunately, fans still have six long months to wait for Rockstar Games' instant classic. I've never played a single minute of any aspect of the game, but it's hard to imagine this project failing.
Let's be frank, it is almost impossible to reach — let alone exceed — expectations. However, short of a complete crashing and bricking of everyone's consoles, GTA 6 will be massive, entertaining and record breaking.
The wait for a third trailer has more anticipation than the release of most full games. Here's everything we know.
Rockstar has officially set Grand Theft Auto 6's release for Thursday, November 19, 2026. That follows two prior delays — first from the original Fall 2025 window, then from a revised May 26, 2026 date — with Rockstar citing additional polish time as the reason for the move.

Take-Two has reaffirmed the November 19 target in its fiscal guidance, and the company's next earnings call on May 21 is the most likely moment for any further updates — including pre-order details, which have not been officially opened as of mid-May.
GTA 6 launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only two platforms Rockstar has officially named, and the studio has framed the game as a true next-generation title built specifically for current-gen hardware rather than a cross-generation release.
A PC version has not been officially announced. That's consistent with Rockstar's historical approach — both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles first, with PC releases following months or years later. Until Rockstar says otherwise, PC players should plan for a wait.
PC players are going to be upset if they’re left out in the cold. Also, the modding community won’t have access to one of its biggest canvases.
Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City at the center of the world. Official marketing copy describes the state as "home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond," positioning the project as a modern take on the Vice City world rather than a retro period piece.
The game’s dual-protagonist structure features Lucia and Jason, with the story following the pair through the criminal underworld of Leonida. These two characters will become so huge in pop culture that they’re likely to be the theme of cosplayers.
Beyond those basics, Rockstar has kept story specifics under wraps — anything circulating about specific heists, mission structures or supporting characters falls outside what the studio has officially put in writing.
Rockstar has acknowledged that an online component will continue with GTA 6, but has not formally detailed a standalone "GTA 6 Online" feature set. That’s the biggest no-brainer ever.
No specific monetization model, launch timing or feature list has been confirmed, beyond high-level commentary that online play will return in some evolved form. Because it’s GTA 6, you know it is likely to be something that does more than we’ve ever seen in gaming.
That matters because GTA Online became the financial backbone of GTA V's decade-plus tail, and how Rockstar structures the GTA 6 equivalent will likely define the franchise's next era. Expect more concrete information closer to launch as marketing ramps up in summer 2026.
