The Globe and Mail reports that Canada’s electronic eavesdropping agency, the Communications Security Establishment (CSE), conducted cyberattacks to disrupt the activities of online foreign criminals involved in selling fentanyl components. These efforts are part of a greater period of expansion for the agency. 

Research fellow Bill Robinson says that the CSE has largely been shielded by spending reductions, noting that “the Carney government has turned its budget fire hose on the Communications Security Establishment and is drenching the agency in money.”
