iGPUs may disappear with Zen 6 desktop, perfect for an era of the most expensive GPUs of all time

Human PC enthusiasts may be a bit miffed to hear that publicly-traded tech company AMD might be prioritizing our “ai” future over things that people in the real world might prefer, but that could be the case. An NPU is a pretty big omission from desktop Zen 5, given the state of the industry (and what attracts those lovely investors), so that is an easy prediction for the next CPU architecture It is already a very marketable part of what is marketed as Ryzen AI, but those marginally important Ryzen 9000 Series desktop parts are wasting an awful lot of space on unneeded items like iGPUs that don’t feature “ai” acceleration (NPU TOPS sell!).

According to the source, as reported as reported by VideoCardz.com, added to Zen 6 will be that all-important integrated NPU (along with CUDIMM support), with the silicon-hogging iGPU thrown out entirely. Oh, and we still won’t have native USB4 support. So get excited for the best Ryzen desktop processors ever! Ok, maybe that’s too sarcastic. Core counts are rumored to be up considerably with the next architecture (up to 24 cores possible), and these will be released for the existing AM5 socket, so maybe that’s why USB4 isn’t a big priority just yet due to current-gen motherboard signaling limitations.
