Blog Graphic 1When we formed the global steering committee for our KnowBe4 Student Edition, our primary goal was to simply listen. That listening paid off during a pivotal conversation with a private research university in Florida.

Their Chief Information Security Officer operates under a holistic mandate: to make the entire university ecosystem safer and more secure. Recognizing that campus safety goes beyond firewalls and data protection, their InfoSec team bridged a crucial gap by connecting us directly with their Student Affairs department in February 2025.

At the time, their Greek Life organizations were facing a critical, real-world need: combating hazing. They didn't just need another dry policy document; they needed engaging, relatable training that actually resonated with students. As we collaborated, it became clear this wasn't just a Greek Life issue—we needed to ensure compliance for all student groups covered under the Stop Campus Hazing Act. Our global publishing teams immediately set out to build content that addressed the subtle, psychological realities of group dynamics, the slippery slope where seemingly harmless traditions escalate into dangerous territory.

A Serendipitous and Urgent Alignment

Blog Graphic 2Just months prior, in December 2024, the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act had been signed into law. Suddenly, what we were developing for this local university wasn't just a best practice in student affairs—it was the exact solution needed to meet a massive federal mandate.

Under the amended Clery Act, colleges and universities that receive federal funding must implement research-informed, campus-wide hazing prevention programs. By mandate, institutions must report on these efforts in their Annual Security Reports (ASR) by October 1, 2026.

With that deadline looming, institutions are scrambling. But here is the insight: rolling out a massive, two-hour PowerPoint presentation once a year simply does not work for modern learners. That "compliance season" mentality will not change behavior, and it will not protect students.

A Modern rApproach for the Whole Campus

To make a real impact on campus culture, we developed two turnkey modules:

  • For Students: Break the Cycle: How Students Recognize and Stop Hazing (22 minutes). It gives students practical tools for bystander intervention before a tragedy occurs. Available via KnowBe4 Student Edition.
  • For Faculty and Staff: Stop Campus Hazing Act for Faculty and Staff (10 minutes). It equips employees to recognize the physical, academic and behavioral red flags of hazing and safely validate student disclosures. Available via Compliance Plus.

For IT leaders, managing this federal requirement doesn't mean buying another standalone platform. By leveraging KnowBe4, colleges and universities achieve critical vendor consolidation, use automated tracking for federal audits and easily delegate training assignments to Student Affairs via Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).

Compliance is about building a true culture of safety and respect across your entire ecosystem, not just checking a box. Reach out to schedule a joint demo of our Student Edition and Compliance Plus platforms today.
