The turquoise waters and coconut palm–lined coast paint a picture of a serene tropical landscape in the historic coastal town of Colachel, in Kanyakumari district. Despite several developments in the region, fishermen are raising concerns over persistent livelihood challenges ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. Their biggest worry is poor communication at sea, as weak or no network connectivity prevents distress calls during emergencies, putting lives at risk.
