Google’s silver move

Google India has launched an Elder Care programme to support employees who care for ageing family members, recognising this is a big need for a growing cohort of people.

In a LinkedIn post, Google India HR head Shraddhanjali Rao wrote about the personal and collective challenges of balancing careers with elder care responsibilities. She shared how the programme was designed to provide peace of mind to Googlers, ensuring their loved ones are cared for across three key pillars: emotional wellbeing, physical wellbeing, and safety.

To take care of emotional wellbeing, the post mentioned actions such as forming support groups and regular check-in calls; for physical wellbeing, doctor tele-consultations and quarterly home visits would be facilitated. The safety support measures included round-the-clock security and virtual home consultations.

Running inside a mine

On October 25, 60 runners from 17 countries will descend more than a kilometre underground to take part in the deepest marathon ever attempted — inside a working zinc mine in Garpenberg, Sweden. The event is designed to push the limits of human endurance, highlight breakthroughs in mining technology and safety, raise over £1 million for charitable causes, and shift public perceptions about the mining industry.

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc and a passionate marathoner, will be taking part in this test of endurance. Misra, who started his career in Tata Steel, has actively participated in 20 running events across India.

The marathon is a collaboration between BecomingX (co-founded by British adventurer and writer Bear Grylls); the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM); and Boliden, the owner of the Garpenberg mine.
