Support from exporters has lifted prices of certain orthodox leaf grades at Coonoor Tea auctions.

However, the prices of other grades maintained at the same level in Sale 16, witnessing a subdued demand from blenders. Traders said that the auction platform is witnessing reduced offerings as the rising temperature has impacted tea production badly.

Global Tea Auctioneers said the sales percentage in leaf grades was 84 per cent out of the offered quantity of 14,08,201 kg, while dust grades maintained 89 per cent sales out of the offered quantity of 4,74,137 kg.

Price surge

In CTC leaf, the high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were barely steady to dearer by ₹4 to 5 and much more at times in line with quality, occasionally some lots sold lower by ₹3 to 4. The better medium sorts were barely steady to dearer by ₹1 to 2.

In leaf orthodox, the primary whole leaf grades were barely steady to occasionally dearer by ₹2 to 3 and occasionally some lots sold easier by ₹2 to 3 also. The brokens were lower by ₹1 to 2.
