BookMyShow’s year-end wrap for 2025 shows that stepping out for entertainment has become routine. So, what do Indians step out most for? Cinema remained the country’s most beloved shared ritual, but it was regional cinema that soared — audiences across the country lapped up Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati and Marathi stories. Nostalgia also captivated audiences, with re-releases of old movies drawing 58 lakh people to cinema theatres.

The year also saw a powerful 17 per cent growth in live entertainment consumption, with 34,086 events across the country. The ‘concert economy’ became mainstream. Music tourism is a big trend. A remarkable 5,62,032 fans travelled to another city for concerts. Over 18 lakh fans attended events solo — showing Indians’ growing confidence in independent experiences. Plays enjoyed a resurgence as well, registering 45 per cent growth in consumption.
